General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove
« on: January 19, 2012, 01:19:03 AM »
Here's my opinion on this matter, and I realize that I'm very different compared to everyone else here:  I'm completely neutral on these SOPA and PIPA bills.  I clearly see the point of stopping internet piracy, but there are definitely flaws on the approach and the lack of focus to carry out their intent.  What I want to know is why are they suddenly a big deal anyway when we have so many larger issues in our country right now?  We have many people still unemployed, an unprecedented debt problem, trouble with foreign countries, and a growing polarity and lack of trust in all citizens.  Shouldn't these be the issues that we should be worried about right now?

It makes this whole debate on these laws and the protests with all these blackouts a huge waste of time and effort that we ought to be prioritizing to focus on solving these issues that will greatly affect all of us.  We can take care of the internet piracy issue later when things are better and we have the time to make it a higher priority.  Besides, I think England already has a case-by-case law that handles this issue quite well.  So, I feel like we lost a day that we all could have done something far more productive than this debacle.

Thank you! :worship:  I would like to know the same thing.  This is by far NOT the most important matter that we should be dealing with in our country right now.  Congress seems to have no idea how to prioritize.  Are the SOPA/PIPA bills going to magically get us out of the economic slump we are still in?

The forums keep blacking out and then going back to normal tonight.  Let's make up our mind what we want to do here, thanks.

(unless its a cache issue )

Well, as we've reached midnight on January 18, 2012, some sites have been blacked out (as Zach has mentioned above) to protest the SOPA.  Wikipedia is among one of many sites participating in this protest, so don't count on it for any last-minute reports today! :P

What does everything think about the protest and act in general?

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

I've been noticing lately that on WUWA, they are no longer using orange title bars and they started using the dark blue title bars that other shows are using. I think these should use orange title bars on morning shows and use dark blue in evenings.
WUWA has pretty much lost its individuality ever since they got rid of vocals. :hmm:

...which I think is a shame. :(  OK, so news stories on TWC aren't really appropriate, and Al Roker isn't the greatest, but originality is what made the show good.  I feel like WUWA is going the rounds of Weekend View...just like any other show.

Does TWC/NBC realize that most of these shows are VERY similar to each other.? And that no one is watching them (except Coast Guard Alaska). They should just go back to only 1 hour of long-form per night like it was long ago. These long-form shows are getting really annoying.

Are you sure no one is watching them? :dunno:  I know that none of us are, but as we've discussed in the past, I don't think TWC would show these if their ratings/viewship is declining.

Coming soon!
Shipping Navigators- See how weather affects the shipping industry
Trash men!- Watch how they handle snow and ice!
Lightning Chasers- Because we haven't done that before
Oil Rig Rodeo- It's weather related!
Solar Rangers- Watch people install solar panels. It's a green show!

If you want these awesome titles TWC I expect some $$!

Martin, all I can say is, you're awesome! :rofl2:

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Todd Santos with Nick Walker today...

I don't think Vivian is going anywhere, considering TWC has aired a promo with her in it.  Since it's a new week, she's probably just on vacation. ;)

Am i not the only one who thinks Abrams and Bettes should be on WCL?
No, A&B are a high rated team, so they belong on a high rated time of day.

So is WCL no longer a high-rated time of day? :dunno:  Maybe that explains why they have, in my opinion, two new and inexperienced OCMs.  But I figured the two top shows on TWC were YWT and WCL.

OK, is it just me, or do Chris Warren and Crystal Egger have NO personality whatsoever?  I know we've talked about this before, but watching WCL tonight was incredibly painful.  I'm not saying every OCM has to "love" the weather with all their heart, but I would like to see a little more passion. :hammer:

American Airlines does not have PTVs in any of their aircraft except the 777, which I feel they barely fly anywhere.  I know a lot of other airlines that are installing them on smaller aircraft, such as the 757 and 767.  Let's just say, it's nice to have them.

Getting the "Strong winds may be causing power outages" message on weather.com again: sustained wind speeds at 29 mph, gusting to 48 mph.

Mother Nature can be quite a pervert, can't she?

Oof. I got some data on my flight to Auckland in a few weeks. 13 hours to get there from Los Angeles. That's gonna be a fun trip.  <_<
Try flying Qantas' 16 hour nonstop from Dallas - Brisbane. Unless you can get a business class ticket, coach will be brutal. :/

Well, coach on Qantas is probably better than coach on American.  In fact, I think coach on ANY airline is better than coach on American.

L3rds based off of WRAL-TV's L3rds.

Sorry about the pictures not being that good, I just googled Heather Tesch and these were the best ones I could find. Also I think I should have shrunk the font on weather.com, but that's ok, it's just a rough draft.

The blue area is where the LDL would be.

Is that what I think it is...an NBC logo next to the TWC one?!? :faint:

Nah, I'm just kidding. :P  Honestly, I'm surprised they haven't done this yet.  I really like your L3rds, Tavores, great job!
