Wow, I think they've covered this more than the Joplin and Tuscaloosa tornadoes! :P

I think after what did happen last year, TWC is going to go a little overboard with their coverage now so more people are away and the number of fatalities (hopefully) decrease. ;)

Our editing director at church said that when he went to an event held by Adobe, they asked how many people had After Effects. Then they asked how many people had a legal copy of After Effects, and only a few hands remained up. I think my hand would have to go down on that one. I do plan on buying it SOMETIME, but not anytime soon LOL

What's considered a non-legal copy of After Effects? :dunno:  Don't worry, I'm not trying to bust you or anything Austin.  I know sometimes sites online have programs that you can download for free, although I don't remember seeing any for After Effects.  So maybe it's a trial version or "simpler" version?

And Victor, I just typed in "After Effects" in Google, scrolled to the one with the Google Product search (shopping results) and discovered it was $524 for PC and $589 for Mac.  There may be additional costs, too, if you look at the prices for it at Wal-Mart or Best Buy, it is near $1000! :o  Amazon offers it for a little over $600.  Once again, you guys who have it must have a lot of money in your pocket. :P

I noticed that on the Station ID, it still says "Copyright 2011" when it is 2012 now.
I noticed that a week ago too.

I think these things sometimes take awhile to get updated.

I dunno

Though I don't have either, I think Zach means After Effects is a better program to make emulations with.  For example, when you see Tyler make his emulations, he normally states that he has used After Effects to make them.

What I want to know is how you all can afford it.  It's over $500!
Andy is correct. It would be Adobe After Effects. However, don't feel so ambitious right away to use it. It took me a long while to know how to use Adobe After Effects in the fashion of which I chose to use it, and believe me, I am still learning. Also, if you're considering creating emulations the way that me, Chazz, Derek, Tyler, etc create them, you're gonna need to know how to use Photoshop beyond how a novice user uses it.

You must have really been dedicated to learning the ways of Photoshop, Zach!  I remember back about a year or so ago when you used to have GIMP and just made the transition to PS.  Now look how far you've come. :)

72 in Norman?!

Yes. :P  Today was an unseasonably warm day.

In addition, it was so windy here today, that there was a dust storm!

Call me ignorant, but how big is this severe weather outbreak supposed to be?  We've had a couple of severe outbreaks within the past month or two with the same conditions as are being forecasted here (damaging winds, hail, tornadoes), and no one has been sent out into the field from what I can remember.  So what makes this outbreak different from the rest?

Severe Weather / Re: Severe Weather Season 2012
« on: January 22, 2012, 04:50:58 PM »
I can NOT wait! I love severe weather. I hope we have just as many EF5s and tornado outbreaks like last year, however I do not want to see the fatalities or excessive damage. I hope last year's events serves as a warning and reminder for people to take these storms more seriously.

Unless all the EF5 tornadoes touch down in a big open field, I don't see how we can have a season like last year and at the same time see less damage and fatalities.  Fatalities could be lower if people prepare and are more aware, but excessive damage will likely still be prominent if we have a severe weather season like last year.

For one, in my college severe storm preparedness is never talked about. For a university with 40,000 kids, we lack a PA system and are dependent on email to alert students. If a tornado or something were to strike here (my psych professor said this during lecture last year), we'd be in serious trouble because of lack of warnings. It doesn't help having large windows in every classroom building either. :/

That's a problem.  Here at OU, we're obviously prepared (can you imagine why? :P).  In the dorms, there is a PA system that will alert everyone to seek shelter.  Tornado sirens will, of course, also be used.  And a lot of our lecture halls have no windows, so they would definitely serve as a good shelter space.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Variant of 1998-2006 Icons!
« on: January 22, 2012, 01:09:19 AM »
Weather.com had those low res icons back then since a lot of people had dial-up still, and those icons were easier to load.

Wow, how times have changed. :P  For some reason, however, I don't remember weather.com having those low-res icons but do remember Yahoo! Weather using them before upgrading to the present-day realistic ones.

You mean that their security script flagged my IP as hostile?

We don't know.  If you are really concerned, you need to contact an admin over there.  Not to be rude, but, once again, this is not our problem. ;)

weather.com must be seeing that no one looks at the online forecast videos for cities anymore, or couldn't care less.  It's annoying, though.  Now they have completely removed the current conditions information, so all that is shown is a regional map and a 5-day.  No metro map and no current conditions.  This is true for several cities I happened to look at: Atlanta, Dallas, Pittsburgh, New York, Norfolk, Tampa, etc.

What's weird is that the regional map for some of the smaller cities (such as Albany, NY, Columbia, SC, even Norfolk) has the really old graphics.

OMG! :o One of three things is happening here: either there's missing data, over half of the weather stations in the US have been destroyed, or the US has been reduced to only some cities.

Hopefully, it's the first explanation. :P
