General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove

Is it just me, or is this year simply flying by before my eyes?  We're almost at the leap day for the end of February!  I often wonder how much the leap day screws up everyone as it's the rarest day on the calendar.

I would only agree to this statement if it were September or October.  Time is flying by for me, but not really this year; we're only 1/6th of the way through!

I hate Leap Day too. It makes our spring break feel like it's one day shorter

How?

Really? That's odd. There are three tags on mine, and they're calling for possible severe weather when there is only isolated thunderstorms. It's too sensitive on mine and not enough on yours, for some reason.

And of course they removed it changing it to Scattered Thunderstorms.

Hey, we've got a red tag for Tuesday, but the forecast doesn't even say "strong" storms...just scattered t-storms/wind. :P

Just heard "Winds could occasionally gust over 50mph"

What I Got Is A Lot of Wind (High Wind Watch 9:58AM)

Thanks for frequently posting IS2 videos!  I tend to look on YouTube frequently to see if you have posted new ones.  They are fantastic quality, too.

Never had the guts to call in to a radio station..

Me neither.  I don't want to be humiliated on air. :P

Probably not if it's a station local to your area...

I think he's probably referring to winners from a radio station contest in general. ;)

You sure you arent in Florida, Patrick? :P

Its 68 partly cloudy here now.

Hey, it was 75° here yesterday. :P  The whole nation is getting a little taste of Florida-weather before winter returns.

So why does it seem like the playlists get all screwed up right before new ones for the next two months are launched?

On the other hand (no pun intended!), does anyone have school today such as myself?

I am assuming the Norman schools, as well as a lot of schools around the area, are off today because the campus is a complete zoo!  For some reason, I get stressed out during situations when there are a lot of people that I have to "dodge" essentially, so lunch in the cafeteria today was sure fun with all these adults and little kids running around. <_<

I don't really care if I had today off or not, since I'm already done with class. :P

TWC is live at 2pm and will be live all evening to covering the storm that is moving to the mid Atlantic plus the storms in the south.

Heather Tesch & Nick Walker came on at 3pm ET for PM Edition.
Carl Parker is at the expert desk.

The storms in the south better receive precedence during this coverage.  The mid-Atlantic snowstorm, IMO, should NOT be receiving any extra coverage (unless this snow storm is going to bring snow in excess of 1 foot to many cities).

Just goes to show how TWC focuses more on the Northeast than any other region. <_<

Speaking of fog, the other day (believe it was Monday) there was some patchy fog and we were very close to seeing freezing fog. That's one of the very rare weather phenomenons I have never witnessed, but temps were a few degrees too warm (upper 30s.). I did hear however parts of NE GA/Western NC/SC saw some freezing fog though and there was a light glaze of ice on tree branches.

We had very dense fog on Tuesday and Wednesday morning here too.  Tuesday's temps I believe were cold enough to produce freezing fog, but I was asleep and couldn't witness it.

I like how you listed Dave Schwartz first.  We all know he's going to win. :P

And, yeah, what's the purpose of the time limit?  Is this for a project or something?

So apparently, the NWS refers to Presidents Day as "Washington's Birthday" now? Why is that?
It's because federal law never called this holiday as "President's Day" at any time, so everyone in the public gets this day wrong.  Even though George Washington was born on February 22, federal law states that the observed holiday known as "Washington's Birthday" is the third Monday of every February.  There's no such day as "President's Day" in the official calendar, so the NWS has to follow it.

Well, federal law is crazy then.

Why would they call it "Washington's Birthday" when that's not his actual birthday??  It was always my understanding that "President's Day" originated from combining Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays together to make one federal holiday.  If this isn't even the case, then how did the term "President's Day" come about?

(These are all rhetorical questions.  I know none of you likely have the answer.)

Incredible!!  The ground here has turned white in a matter of 15 minutes! :o  It's dark outside, so it's hard to see how much is covered, but I do see the white stuff.

Were the flakes big or the snowfall rates heavy? I know I read in a MD issued by the SPC that some areas in TX/OK would see 1/2 inch an hour rates. I wanna get a feel of how things might play out here in my backyard. Also I noticed looking at the radar trends, the precip is moving east hours faster than modeled to. It's already affecting W/TN and Northern MS. I expect it to be in N. GA somewhere in the 2pm -5pm hour.

Honestly, it was hard to tell because it was dark outside.  However, I think we got a heavier snowfall rate (a whopping 1 inch or so). :P

Since all of this happened overnight, I am not 100% sure on the details, but I don't think we got much ice like what was originally expected.  Everything is pretty much all a slushy snow (that's already melting).
