General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove
« on: March 17, 2012, 11:58:12 AM »
So the NOAA/NWS website is really making me angry right now.  All day Thursday, and now today (everything was fine yesterday), I can't get an accurate, detailed forecast because I get this message: The 'Forecast At A Glance' icons, hourly weather graph feature, Spanish version, and temperatures in Celsius are temporarily not available for this location for technical reasons. We apologize for any inconvenience. Additionally, the local observations have not received a current update for almost 24 hours.  What's causing this?

ANOTHER COAST GUARD ALASKA COPYCAT BASED ON COAST GUARD ALASKA!
It's called a spinoff. Happens all the time in TV

Despite the fact that it is a spin-off, I think they should have used their imaginations more (if TWC/NBC even have any to begin with) and come up with a different name.  Unless they really want the two shows to be "linked" together like that.

Since I never watch long-form, someone can enlighten me on this if it is not true, but I think TWC has way too many different shows and show them at random times during random weeks.  I don't think I could ever make the statement, "Hey, my favorite show, [such and such], is on at 4 pm today and all this week for the next month!"  It would be very aggravating to me if I did get into a show...I don't think I would ever know when it was on.

I hope you all realize

What if your hopes were not realized?  You'd lock us all in? :bleh: :rofl2:

No!!!  Get me out of here! :fire:  I'm going to burn up!  It's way too hot!

Why only two-times an hour?
Because the other 4 LFs are fullscreen locals? :P

No! :P  Only two-times an hour seems silly.  Either do it four/six-times or not at all.  What makes the :08 and :38 times so "special" that a squeezeback is needed?

They accidentally cued the XL at 458 CT while they did the squeezeback forecast

They cued the squeezeback at a :58 time?  This contradicts what Zach had said and what I'm confused about. Maybe it was the other way around; the squeezeback did not cue at the right time and the XL was fine.

Why am I being so picky about all of this?  Because consistency is key!

Winter Weather / Re: Winter Storm Thread: 2011-12 Season
« on: March 13, 2012, 01:56:53 PM »
For me, winter is my least favorite season., so the relative lack of cold air did not bother me at all.  I can't stand the cold temperatures (although I know that when I'm walking to class sweating later this year I'll think otherwise :P).  But since Oklahoma got one snow "event" this year and I have seen snow, I am officially satisfied.  Hopefully no more ridiculous cold fronts will roll through, although we're in Oklahoma...I can't promise anything.

I hope you all realize that any TWC weather station is cheap and will perform poorly.  I've had better luck with simple Radio Shack thermometers than anything from TWC.  The bottom line is that if you really want a good weather station, you'll have to consider spending in the range of $250-$1,000.

Does TWC actually make the weather station?  If so, it's interesting that you can find them on the LaCrosse website.

I have a LaCrosse model that I really like, but I surprisingly can't find the model on their website.  So it's possible it was discontinued (I only bought it a year or so ago).  It does NOT have an anemometer.

However, the model I have now is my second model.  The first one I had (also LaCrosse) broke for some reason; I think the batteries corroded.  That model has also been discontinued, but it did have an anemometer that was never, ever accurate for winds over 10 mph.  The placement near the house was probably a bad idea, but we didn't really have any place high up to put it.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

I know we've been briefly talking about this, but are they replacing the video wall, or perhaps just upgrading it (since it always seemed so washed-out or dark)? :dunno:  If they are indeed replacing it, it seems like that was a complete waste of money, since they only used it for about 2 1/2 years or so.

OK, the use of the L-Bar (aka squeezeback) keeps going back and forth and back and forth.  When will TWC make up their minds on this thing?

Warmest it's been all day.

EDIT:

Now 70°F

A line of strong storms formed literally just south of here over the past hour.  Too bad we won't be getting any action.
