Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: February 19, 2015, 12:56:46 AM »
anyway, moving on, i was channel surfing and ran into The Weather Channel HD Feed on Dish ch. 214 (Dish is my provider) which right now is airing "Highway Thru Hell", and i noticed now you see the the time and temp for all the cities in the US on the bottom half of th screen during the show and even on the ad break, the local forcecast is still shown. i checked the SD feed too and it's only on the HD Feed. in fact i have taken 2 pics of this, one from when the ads were on the other when the show was back from commercial. these two pics were taken from my tablet's webcam pointed at my TV set, so sorry for the quality

Interesting.  I guess this means that TWC finally (after over a year) found a way to display weather information during long-form to viewers with the National Feed?  I'm actually curious to know how this is done, as the bar is still transparent.  I always assumed that in the past, with the opaque bars, the national LDL always cued, and a local STAR LDL would cue over the national one.

General Discussion / Re: Gas prices in your area

I read online where the end may be in sight to the falling gas prices.

And the end has arrived. :(  Prices have been on a rise this week.  Interesting to see the trend in gas prices since 2004, however.

I'm glad to hear Windows 10 will be free to download for Windows 7/8 users when it's released later this year. Supposedly, it will be free for at least the first year to download then you have to buy it. I'm still using Windows 7 currently. I've only had a brief experience with using Windows 8 and it's OK. Don't hate it or love it.

Although I don't think the whole tablet interface was as bad as people made it out to be.

That makes me happy, although I would prefer it be free permanently rather than just for the first year.  I don't understand why Windows can't be like Apple and just make all software upgrades free.

I have Windows 8 right now and don't like it.  Too buggy and in some cases, too confusing.  And I'll admit, I bought a touch-screen computer because I know Windows 8 was designed for the tablet/touchscreen interface and now realize that I rarely, if ever, use the touch-screen at all.  I know I recall plenty of people saying when Windows 8 first came out that it would be a nightmare using it without a touch-screen, but I have found that statement to be completely false.

All XL units were upgraded to the IntelliStar Jr. a while back.  Nothing is letterbox in SD.  However, I have no idea why they would consist of the pre-launch IS2 graphics.  I thought those were all updated.

Check the date of the original post. B)

D'oh!  This is why bumping topics should not be allowed. :hammer:

While the Northeast dealt with a blizzard, we were treated to three days of spring-like, record-setting temperatures.

My TV Guide Listing updated with "Live: Blizzard Juno" running all night long.

Mine is showing that too, with the programming returning as "Weather Center Live" tomorrow at 11 am CST.   Long-form likely returns with "Raging Nature" tomorrow at 7 pm. My question is when they changed the name of the coverage. It seems a little late now, because it wasn't like this last night.

Also, I meant to mention this earlier, but Kelly Cass was on last night with Kim Cunningham. I wonder how long she (Kelly) will be sticking around?  Samantha Mohr is on with Kim tonight instead.

CORRECTION: Sam is on with Mark Thibodeau right now, with Kim in The Lab. (Carl Parker was in the lab last night.)

Ray Stagich is on with Mark Thibodeau at 12 AM EST.

Also surprised TWC isn't in full-blown Storm Alert mode.  (As in, the last LOT8s I watched wasn't using Storm Alert music, and isn't the entire L-Bar thing usually red?)

Anybody having any luck on working on a successful transporter machine that can get me to Boston, MA within the next 24 hrs?
Yeah, and for me too lol. I would love to experience that blizzard.

You know, I wouldn't mind experiencing something like that once.  Just once.  Then I would probably say "never again."  It would be one thing being stranded at home under two or three feet of snow but a whole other being without power for several days (or even weeks).

A strong ridge of high pressure to our west (in tandem with the strong trough to our east) will fuel unseasonably warm temperatures for the next few days.

Today, OKC set a new record high of 77°F, shattering the old record of 71°F set back in 1999.  Record highs are possible for the next two days.  (Just for fun, the high in Miami, FL was also 77°F today.)

Currently, the temperature is 76°F at OKC Will Rogers World Airport.

Then again weather witness you probably work for TWC and helped lead it to the decline we see today.

Excuse me, but this statement is not correct, and there is absolutely no reason for you to jump to such conclusions.  <_<  I, too, do not like the direction in which TWC has gone and wish they would provide more coverage.  I don't like all the long-form and the more entertainment-based morning shows.  However, members of these forums have complained and complained about the current state of TWC, and nothing has changed.  And I do not think it will change, unfortunately.

It's perfectly fine to provide your opinion, and I agree with you on what you said.  I was simply suggesting that if you needed weather coverage, you may be able to tune-in to your local stations which would be providing coverage.  It's not like The Weather Channel is the only channel out there which provides weather information.

A major winter Storm is fast approaching the northeast and TWC has decided showing reality crap is better then having the weather on.  For work and my occupation storms are part of the job and we need to know what's up. Granted we can read everything on NWS website and read discussions. But it would be nice to have a weather channel on a TV that actually shows weather and OCMs talking to us and explaining what's going on. I give up on this channel. I gave up long ago, but now that's it.  Oh I long for the days when I could turn on the TWC, especially with a major storm was approaching and I got the weather and a solid local forecast.  Put this station out of its misery already.

Watch your local stations?

General Discussion / Re: Sports Thread

(Disclaimer: I know nothing about sports.)

I thought the Patriots cheated by using underinflated balls.  (That supposedly makes them easier to catch?)  If that's the case, why are they allowed to advance to the Super Bowl?

Because the NFL is a crappy organization that won't punish teams like it should.  If anything, I'm sure the Patriots will be charged a $10,000 fine or something, which basically equates to a penny in the world of football.

Programming and Graphics / Re: New Morning Show: "AMHQ with Sam Champion"
« on: January 17, 2015, 06:17:28 PM »
Regarding the changes, it's pretty much no surprise that they would put Cantore on a morning show with failing ratings.  The true test will be to see if he can get more people tuned in.  No disrespect to Cantore, but I just haven't enjoyed watching him as much lately.  In my opinion, he has gone way over the top with getting worked up.  In the past, when he would get worked up, it was rare and exciting to see.  Now I feel like he gets excited over every little thing, and the excitement is almost fake and over done.  Also, I find it interesting that TWC chose Jen Delgado as the third member of the team.  I haven't watched her much, but for some reason, she just doesn't seem to come off in the right way.

Maria and Paul I think would make a good pair for the new weekend show.  I'm not sure why she'd be upset with having her own show, but I know the weekend time-slot is not as popular as the weekday.  Finally, I think Mike Bettes is also a good choice to have his own show, although I feel like we're going in circles because he and Stephanie Abrams once used to have their own show.  I wish they would bring back Abrams and Bettes and leave Al all by himself.
