General Discussion / Re: You Tube subscribers...
« on: May 22, 2012, 09:41:51 PM »
There are videos going around suggesting Youtube is actually deleting accounts deemed "inactive." It's apparently part of their newest "Terms of Use." If you do find a video, beware because most of them are excessively profane.

Do you have to create a Google account to have a YouTube account now?  I had a YT account awhile back (and probably still do), but I can't use it anymore because I'm getting a notice that I need to create a Google account to link the two, and I do NOT under any circumstances want to create a Google account. :nono:

Wow, this must officially be the end of the 2 minute flavors then. 2 minutes has always been the longest amount of time possible for the LFs since J flavours were discontinued in the late 90's.

IMO, this shouldn't be the case.  Now the National Feed no longer shows the city-by-city 5 day forecast (3-day on SD), which leads to a greater lack of information.  Bad move.

At :08 a 60-second flavor aired  :o

First the music, now the reduction of LF flavors? I sense major controversy coming...  :hmm:

Yeah, I noticed that too.  At 10:28 CT, a 1:30 flavor (I believe...on the HD Satellite LF it did not show the city-by-city forecast) aired.  I don't know if this is permanent or some test, because I always remember 2 minute flavors showing at :28.

Also, vocal music played then too, although I can't ID the song. :hmm:

Wow Warren is still on twc!? I thought he was let go with the other old timers? I haven't seen him on air since

No, he's still there, I guess he's just a freelancer.  I wonder if he has another part-time job or something, or works behind the scenes?  Because (I know what freelance meteorologist means), if the only time he works is when we see him on-air and that's the only time he gets paid, that's not very much. :ermm:

Heather and Warren on WN

Warren:clap:
Great pairing! :)

Would you happen to have a short clip from WN of them working together?  That's an interesting pair, and it would be neat to see how they worked together. :)

I agree with all of you guys lol. Is it possible to like science but hate math?

Is it possible to like math but hate science? :P  Because I somehow feel opposite.  Despite the fact I'm majoring in Meteorology, I am more comfortable in Calculus than Physics.  But (I know we can't let this account for everything), teachers/professors really play a big role.  I somehow have a curse on me to never have a good Physics teacher in my lifetime; thus, whereas I aced Chemistry in the fall semester, I got a B in Physics this semester and throughout the AP courses I took in high school.

I also love to write and consider myself a very good writer, but cannot understand reading comprehension to save my life. :ermm:

I think Patrick is right.  To me, "Albuquerque" looks like Arial Narrow, as does "Humidity" and "Winds."  The days of the week are probably in a standard Arial.  The temperatures look like a bolded Arial, or possibly Arial Black.  That's about all I can pick out.

Going off the topic of music... :hammer:

I have noticed recently where TWC's LOT8s bumpers say no more than "And now your LOT8s" and last for about a couple of seconds.  They aren't advertising anything beforehand.  It's possible, though, that some of these are also mixed in with ones that do advertise longform, etc.  I don't know when this started, or if it has been discussed before, but I feel like it's been awhile since we've seen a LOT8s intro without any form of advertisement before it.

OK, so what was the difference between the positions of Bryan and Dr. Knabb?  Hurricane specialist vs. hurricane expert: what's the difference?  I am sure TWC will probably want an expert over a specialist, so maybe Bryan will get promoted, or maybe TWC will hire someone new.  I just don't see them "playing around with positions" since they become real serious during Hurricane Season.

We've already got a topic on this here. ;)  Maybe mods can merge these two because both contain useful information.

Anyway, this is interesting to hear, but I hope Scott enjoys his new job!

Congratulations to Dr. Rick Knabb!!

But now, who's going to be the Hurricane Expert on TWC?  Bryan Norcross?

General Discussion / Re: Solar Eclipse
« on: May 17, 2012, 09:59:28 PM »
but where on the east coast? Is it just the entire seaboard that can view it? I never get luck seeing these eclipses in southern NJ
The east coast is not going to be able to see it because the sun will set too soon. It's mostly the central and western states that will be able to see it.

Yeah, even weather.com is saying only areas in west Texas and west of there will be the best places to view it.  I am just confused.  Those who live further east may not get to see the full eclipse, but we'll still see part of it, right?  I assume the "end" time of 9:49 PM CDT means the time at which the eclipse is over, not the time at when the eclipse is occuring.  The difference between the times given on that table is about 6 hours.  So is it a good assumption to assume that the full eclipse will be at about 3 hours in from the start time?

Someone check my math and correct me if I'm wrong.  I may be spouting off information that is far from accurate.  I am not a solar eclipse expert. :P

Will those of you on the East Coast get to see a partial view of the eclipse?  According to this table, the solar eclipse is supposed to begin around 4:56 PM EDT/3:56 PM CDT and end around 10:49 PM EDT/9:49 PM CDT.  Depending on your sunset time, you will get to see more of the solar eclipse than others.  I *may* have a chance at seeing something.  Not sure when the full eclipse will happen.

Since I do not see a topic for the TWC mobile app, I'll just post this here...

Today, version 5.0.0 of the TWC mobile app was released, and it is a COMPLETE overhaul of what is was previously.  Some of the most notable changes include a photo background for the current conditions instead of an icon (like on weather.com...this seems to be a popular thing now), a camera button on the "Now" page to automatically take you to your camera to take a weather picture, the new weather.com icons, different map navigation, and of course, an easier way to share the weather on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Overall, I think it's pretty nice.
