IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: General IS2 Discussion
« on: January 26, 2013, 02:32:21 PM »
In a restaurant on the OU campus today, I saw an IS2 for Oklahoma City.  I am assuming this is probably through COX.  (Strangely enough, COX customers in Norman, or on the OU campus at least, do not get a forecast for Norman.  Instead, it's Oklahoma City.)

Here is the SPC's current threat area for Tuesday and Wednesday (Days 4 and 5, respectively).  Again, this is still pretty far out, so the threat area is likely to change.  But anyone in the highlighted areas needs to be on the lookout for potentially dangerous conditions.

Forecasting / Re: Ask The Weather Expert!

So after the snowfall in Dallas the other day, and looking at the NWS daily weather summary for the day, does the precipitation report include snowfall?  I would think snowfall is considered precipitation, so it should be included, but I know they have a separate section for snowfall and precip.  I ask this because the snowfall report for DFW Airport was .3 inches, but the precip report was only 0.05 inches.  I read somewhere online where you need to divide by 10 to convert a snowfall total to a rainfall total, but it appears there was also rain from that day too.

General Discussion / American Airlines Unveils New Livery and Logo
« on: January 17, 2013, 11:54:44 AM »
Since I'm somewhat of a fanatic over airline liveries, especially American, since it is the main airline I fly, I figured I would post this.  American Airlines just introduced a new logo and livery to the public today (first time since 1968).  What do you all think of it?  The new "eagle" may take some time getting used to.  I think the tail would look better with stars instead of lines in the blue section, but as I saw on some Facebook posts, that resemble too much of Colgan Air.  A big change is that "AA" is no longer present anywhere, meaning the merger with US Airways might be taking place?

Here's the YouTube video from American explaining their change:

I'm just disappointed that I'm 1 for 3 in snow "storms" so far.  Thankfully I was in Dallas for the "white" Christmas, but then I missed some snowfall in Norman that Friday of Christmas week, and missed the snow in Dallas on Tuesday. :(

SURPRISE SNOWFALL for Dallas/Fort Worth this morning.  The stalled front brought some snow and sleet to the Metroplex.  Thundersnow even occured just a little before sunrise!  Check out the total snowfall accumulations below.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

I thought they might be live at 5pm with the active tornado warnings, they went to tape.
Did they go live at 5:30pm?

Todd, Kim and Dr. Forbes are on for the extended coverage.

TWC goes back to reruns at 6pm.

Wow, that's crazy that they only had a half-hour of live coverage.  I tuned in just past 5:30 eastern/4:30 central to see Dr. Forbes talking about the tornado warning in southern Indiana.  The "Extended Live Coverage" insert on the LDL led me to believe this would last awhile.  Guess not.

TORNADOES reported in the Ohio Valley.  TWC is pre-empting taped programming to track the severe weather outbreak as this front pushes across the country.
