OCMs & Personalities / Re: Jennifer Lopez returns to TWC
« on: April 20, 2013, 06:56:14 PM »
Wow!  I didn't see this coming, but am so happy right now!  Jennifer was definitely a top-notch OCM, and even if she is just doing freelance work at the moment, I am glad to see her back with a job.

I didn't realize she was "let go" from KXAS last year.  That's the Dallas/Fort Worth NBC affiliate; I remember no longer seeing her but didn't realize the reason for her departure.  That's too bad, but I am glad TWC has decided to take her back (for now).

With the limited resources i have here's what i think the new Local On The 8s might look like

Example of Localonthe8s

I would agree with you Alex.  This fits the showing LOT8s and live weather simultaneously, or whatever that article hinted to.  What would be kind of neat is to have a personalized video forecast in the "screen" portion, kind of like what AccuWeather does, or even the "Focus Forecasts" on weather.com now.  But I don't know how much recording that would take - if they have to update all those US cities several times a day! :o

54°F Sunny

A RECORD LOW was set at OKC Will Rogers World Airport this morning.  The temperature dropped to 33°, breaking the old record of 35°, set in 1953. :brr:

37°F Mostly cloudy

A FREEZE WARNING is in effect for Friday morning, so spring is not here either. :brr:  With some clouds moving in, maybe we will stay above the freezing mark.

We are stuck in a rut it seems like; it gets warm with temperatures in the 70s, then a cold front comes and gives us the 30s and 40s.  The good thing is that each system in the past few weeks has brought between 2 to 3 inches of rain, which is excellent in helping out the drought.

Not a single tornado reported. What a bust.  :itsok:

Mac, I don't know if this is true.  According to these storm reports, five tornadoes were reported on Wednesday, but they were very short.  These occurred in Oklahoma/north Texas.  As reports still come in, it is possible that these are incorrect if you have heard or seen otherwise.

General Discussion / Re: Explosions Rock Boston Marathon
« on: April 16, 2013, 12:01:49 PM »
On an article I found on MSN this morning, I am now confused about two things.

http://news.msn.com/us/boston-bombing-what-we-know

Quote
At about 2:50 p.m. ET on Monday, two bombs exploded in Boston's Copley Square, near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

Yesterday, reports said that the explosions occurred at 2:10 p.m. ET.  I know time may not be a big deal, but in my opinion, the time at which these explosions occurred should not be difficult to figure out, so it concerns me that this has changed from the preliminary reports.

Quote
No unexploded bombs were found on Monday, despite previous reports, authorities said at a press conference Tuesday.

I heard yesterday that the Bomb Squad set off at least one more bomb to detonate it before it caused any more damage.  Now this latest report says this is no longer true.  How, and WHY, would you lie about something like that???

Does anyone else have any information?  I know this is still a developing story, so a lot of the details are very fuzzy at this moment, but I don't understand these differences in the latest reports.

Tavores, I hope you don't mind, but I have made this a separate topic, as I feel this is a major event to talk about.  In splitting the topic, I forgot to rename it, so that is why you and Victor will see your posts edited.  Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Right now, this is a very sad day for the nation, and I am praying for everyone affected by this.  The fact that two explosions in two separate places occurred within 15 seconds of each other scares me that this was a planned attack, so anyone in or around Boston, PLEASE be careful.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: April 14, 2013, 01:28:15 AM »
Next thing you know, prison and/or crime shows will pop up on TWC.  I can see it now: "Weather and Crime," a show that will detail how weather conditions influence crime rates and types.  (I hope I'm not being too realistic here (  :noexpression: ) )

Somehow I don't think you're too far from the truth, my friend. :whistling2:

TWC is now on its 24th named storm, with only 2 remaining (Y and Z).  With us being well into spring, it's probably unlikely that they will run out, but who would have thought we would have had two named storms in April?!

Impressive pictures, Victor! :D  Unfortunately, we didn't get any severe weather as expected but got the wintry side of this system here in Norman, with some freezing rain this morning.  Yesterday, the temperature went from 73° to 59° in 20 minutes!  Today, the high did not break the 30s, with temperatures hovering around freezing for most of the morning and early afternoon.  Yuck!

Thought I would share this with you all.  A 56° temperature difference across the state!  Here in Norman, the temperature went from 73° to 59° within 20 minutes, according to the AWOS station data.  Freezing rain expected tonight.  Too crazy.

This might be a little unrelated, but weather.com (and possibly TWC on-air - I haven't looked yet) has slightly updated graphics for their thunderstorm outlook.  They sure do like the use of 3D-looking effects. :P
