Programming and Graphics / Re: New Graphics coming to TWC
« on: October 05, 2013, 12:06:20 PM »
The main on air graphics will still be using WSI Max systems so while they may look different I would expect them to keep the same feel to them unless they get some major TWC exclusive features from the WSI team. Remember this is just a sample image not made with actual production equipment. Some of you may remember the original HD Star concept video several years ago. The end results were quite different.

Yeah, and remember the HD Vision video they had prior to their HD launch?  How close did the actual graphics come to looking like that? :P

The graphics presented in the video are quite different, although it looks like TWC will be keeping their traditional "Local on the 8s" concept.  Of course, all I could say when the video came to 1:56 was news channel, news channel, news channel!

I would hope TWC uses this "relaunch" to provide uniformity across all platforms.  Therefore, this look would be on both SD and HD channels and all "STARS" (if that's even what it's going to be anymore) look alike.

weatherfan_2013: I put your new topic as a post in this thread as it was relevant to the discussion here.

I am anxious to see what TWC has in store here, but I wonder if this will also be the demise of the LOT8s as we know it?

Sunny and 87 °F.  Winds SW at 20 mph, gusting to 29.  *checks calendar and does double take*

Yeah, seriously.  Today's high was 90°F, and combined with dew points in the upper-60s to low-70s, it was a miserable day.

Right now, it's 81°F under mostly clear skies.

Sigh... They STILL can't get this LDL karen thing right can they??

Please watch what thread you're posting in.  This post really has nothing to do with winter storms.  Thanks.

Tropical Storm Karen has formed. Maybe TWC will cut the vocals?  :dunno:

This probably won't happen until Karen comes closer to the U.S. or even after it makes landfall.  And at this point, even that's a stretch with the direction this channel is heading.

Welcome back, Zach!

It looks like the nation is going to have some interesting weather over the next few days.  With a winter storm in the Rockies, severe weather across the Plains and Midwest, and a tropical system making landfall in the southeast, we sure won't be missing out on much over the next few days.  It was great seeing new posts in the "Hurricane Central," "Severe Weather," and "Winter Weather" child boards below.

Let's just hope everyone stays safe during these weather systems.

If TWC does this, it would be very similar to what ESPN does with their "Bottom Line."

Winter Storm Atlas has been named earlier today.

At this rate, we're going to run out of names before winter even begins...

I was hoping TWC would not name winter storms again, but I guess not.  Obviously it's a big publicity stunt.

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Jerry

It's a tropical storm now with sustained winds of 40 mph.  Jerry will remain a fish storm as it basically makes a big circle in the open Atlantic.

I guess TWC is that low on revenue? This Ad looks weird for a weather website. If it's even weather anymore

They have done that before; I remember one for Ice Age.  It's very annoying and cluttered but hey, why not advertise and annoy your viewers when you can earn more money?!

weather.com relaunched today with a new web design/new weather icons.

I'm still seeing the old design and icons on my end.   Maybe the new designs were being tested out?  :dunno:

Maybe so. The main page needs some serious work, it was very glitchy last night. Also it looks very cluttered the way the headlines are outlined. It was better the way the lay out was before.

beta.weather.com brings it up for me.

Yeah, beta.weather.com often times has new designs that they are testing out.  Hopefully they will fix some of the bugs before formally launching it.

Another re-launch?!

And wow, look at those icons.  Interesting how weather icons now-a-days seem to be getting simpler and simpler.  I guess that's what the public likes.

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Humberto
« on: September 11, 2013, 10:29:23 AM »
Hurricane Humberto is the first hurricane of the 2013 Atlantic season, with sustained winds of 75 mph.  It will continue to travel northward over the next few days before making a sharp turn towards the west out to the open Atlantic waters.
