General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove
« on: February 11, 2014, 01:55:59 AM »
I'm getting a good vibe that this winter storm could be one I'll be talking about for years to come... :D I don't even remember if ever I have been through a winter storm that could last as long as this one. :thrilled:
While you may be thrilled to see snow, I'm personally ready for spring.  The cold weather has taken a toll on my spirits since the holidays ended.  I hope this winter storm is the last one as I could use some warmer days ahead.

Come to Norman then!  Starting this weekend, I'm going to need to move from the stove back out on to the porch, as high temperatures will be in the 60s for quite some time.  We're all going to be getting some spring fever.

No snow yet, but freezing drizzle and fog has created numerous travel problems across central Oklahoma this morning.

It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out.  NWS keeps changing our forecast here in Norman.  First we were supposed to get near nothing, then 1 to 2 inches, then only a dusting, and now we're back in the 1- to 2-inch range.  The ultimate track of the low pressure system will really determine what's going to happen.

I'm hoping for one last round of winter weather before we warm up to the 60s by the end of the week.  Norman has picked up around 5 inches of snow from last week's systems, and there's still some patches of snow around the city, meaning we have officially had snow on the ground for one week.

Basically that looks like the pre-November 2013 IS2 for SD (without the left sidebar).  As much as I like it, I can't imagine why they would change to that instead of the current graphics.  Thought they were supposed to make all their graphics uniform.  That only lasted, what, 3 months?!

Everything Else TWC / Re: Blooper Thread

TWC really needs to learn its geography.  A "professional" channel (as they claim) should not be making these kinds of mistakes.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: DirecTV Dropping TWC

I hate to break it to you folks but The Weather Network isn't happening.

I'm assuming you meant Network Weather?  Isn't The Weather Network Canada's version of TWC?  (Ha, maybe the fact that they couldn't even come up with an original name is a bad sign.)

Anyway, while I agree with what you said, I am a little confused as to why they would make all this stuff up.  It appears they have a lot of followers - I think it would be such a stab in the back to say that this was all a joke. But does that mean that the entire "company" is vanishing, or just the fact that going 24/7 on air just won't become a reality while they still do online, quick forecasts?

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: Intellistar Background suggestion...
« on: January 30, 2014, 05:08:37 PM »
As for the Boston mockup, keep in mind, it's probably not running on actual Intellistar 2 hardware.  Granted, the IS2 should theoretically be able to look like that, but I think they want to keep the IS1 and IS2 as identical as possible for some reason.

This could probably be a whole separate discussion in its own, but I've always wondered what the maximum capabilities of the IS and IS2 hardware are.  I'm assuming the IS2 is more powerful that the IS and can probably handle the animated backgrounds and such.  But it just confuses me to see these fancy, flashy mockups and then have the actual product be sub-par.  I'm pretty sure you're right in saying that the Boston mockup was not running on IS2 hardware, and I remember the mockup of the IS2 they made before it ever came out was not on IS2 hardware (I think someone mentioned After Effects).  So, to me, that sounds like the IS and IS2 cannot handle that much "pizzazz," if you will.

Network Weather Channel posted this on Facebook:  " *** URGENT MESSAGE FROM NETWORK WEATHER CHANNEL ***
There have been rumors running around that our company should buy The Weather Channel. Yes, we are heavily considering that option and a press release will be put out to the press explaining this situation. More in the coming days. STAY TUNED"

I'm pretty skeptical on this, so we'll just have to wait and see.  I'm no expert on economics, but I fail to see how a small (I think it's small), up-and-coming company like Network Weather can buy TWC out from a power company like NBC.

And honestly, I feel competition for TWC is better anyway.  With more "weather channels" out there, TWC should adjust its programming rather than doing whatever it wants because it is eh hem, it thinks, it's the only source of weather information out there.

Couple of things:
On Tavores' video, it looks like TWC has now properly shortened Jackson's narrations so that they don't get cut-off anymore.  For example, the wind speeds were not narrated.
On Alex's video, has TWC changed the order of the screens so that the Hourly Forecast comes before the 36-hour (err, 24-hour) forecast like it was on the old IS, or is that part of the error?
