Tropical Depression 2 has made landfall as of 10:15 AM CDT. It will be a major flooding threat to the cities of South Texas, such as Brownsville, Laredo, and even San Antonio and Houston.

Well, it's going to be a major flooding threat to S. Texas. At least they are covering something weather-related.

:offtopic:

A downside to having this new weather.com as a BETA is that it does not seem like it is around-the-clock fully updated. Oh well, I can be patient for 8-9 more days. :P

Wow...it sure seems like this developed into something fast. :o This is kind of another scary situation to think about what this really could evolve into if it had more water space to intensify.

Speaking of WC, what happened to Where Am I and the Top 5?
They kinda have a top 5 once in a while. It lost its appeal I guess. You can only keep it up so long and have people interested.

The TOP 5 was on today. :P The topic was the top 5 cities with the most number of consecutive triple-digit heat days in the NE.

Hey everyone, I know I don't post much, if at all, but I've got a question.  You've all been (or still are) in elementary school/early junior high/middle school.  I'm an instructor at a local daycare, and we're doing a weather/seasons week soon.  My question is, do you all have any ideas of simple, inexpensive activities that relate to weather that I could do with the kids?  Thanks for your suggestions in advance!  PM me if there's an idea or few that you've got!

PS:  the age range of the kids is 5 (kindergarten) through 12.
The classic Tornado in a bottle (when you attach two 2 liter bottles together) is always fun! I remember doing that in elementary school. Its a cheap and neat activity to try :)

My science teacher bought these things that screw the two bottles together...I think they're from Steve Spangler. No guarantees on its origin, but it's a lot less messy.
Duck tape works too :P

Martin, there are so many different meanings to that, many of which I will NOT detail. Haha...I know what you're talking about. :P

Oh no! Why would you even begin to think about it that way? :wall: :bleh:

Yeah, this was the big topic on WC tonight...NHC has raised the formation chance to 80%. Oddly enough, this looks like it will be taking the same path as Alex. So what, is all the tropical activity for Hurricane Season 2010 going to hit Texas and Mexico?

So is "Weather Center with Cantore and Steele" now no longer true? :dunno: I know this question may have come out of nowhere, but now it looks like Chris is the permanent new guy with Alexandra.

Does anyone have a screenshot of this? :dunno: Honestly, it seems like TWC has a lot of different sets of graphics. Maybe the basemaps are the same, but city names and layouts change from graphic to graphic.

And I doubt TWC would be updating their graphics again after doing so only about four months ago. But I'm not sure.

TWC Today News / Re: Profile Modifications
« on: July 07, 2010, 10:25:35 PM »
Hey Tyler... I noticed that when you can select your STAR in your profile. you have the IntelliStar 2 and the regular IntelliStar. I thought I read something on some other forums on the internet that if the company has TWC HD, they need to Intellistar 2 (That is, if I read your post correctly). So, how would that work if people had both? (And it may have been dslreports.com).
I have no idea what you are asking

I think he's saying that, because you must select your STAR from a list, you can only select one and when the IntelliSTAR 2 comes out, there may be some people with a regular IntelliSTAR AND an IntelliSTAR 2. Since the IS2 is not out yet, we really don't need to worry about this issue yet. ;)

Tyler, are you still working on your HD forecast from about a month or so ago? :dunno: That one was really amazing...I would like to see something like that on TWC.

That always will be the case. Online forecasts are just generated automatically. Plus you have to take into account HiRad and other manipulation TWC does with their weather data. NWS is still the best place for weather info

I think they were running a separate database for the website's forecast data back in the 90s/early 2000, at least that's what I recall them saying.

I haven't checked other cities, but they seem to have a serious warm bias with high temperatures here. They've been putting highs of 95-98 degrees in the days 2-4 forecast a few times this summer, but that's way too hot.

HiRad is another issue. I will always prefer real observations over interpolated ones.

I've noticed that issue, too. For example, I think temperatures from DFW Airport are used on the air whereas a general "Dallas, TX" online will give observations from downtown or Love Field. HiRAD is obviously a reason for this.

Is anyone else automatically being directed to the new site when they type in www.weather.com? :dunno: This is probably intentional, but I thought the site wasn't supposed to launch for nine days.
Nope, it still links me to the old site.

Well this is odd. I wonder if I'm one of the lucky ones in BETA testing...I think I read somewhere where certain people would be directed to the new site.
