General Discussion / Re: Where in the world have you been?
« on: March 30, 2014, 01:28:33 PM »

I can update mine to include 22/50 states (44%) now, after visiting New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut on an "East Coast Tour" with my family last summer.

From the network president's Twitter:

So explain to me about AMHQ, sir.

That tweet (from DC) makes absolutely no sense.  He's just trying to cover up the fact that someone actually caught TWC in the act of not talking about weather and posting it on social media for everyone to see.

Does anyone know if TWC is providing live coverage of the California tornado warnings?  WeatherNation is NOT.

Does anyone know how I can get more twitter followers without following them back?

That's a good question.  I've always found Twitter a little strange, because unlike Facebook where if you friend someone you automatically see what they post and vice versa, with Twitter, you can follow people but then also have to have followers to see what you're posting (or tweeting).  I too wish I had more followers.  I guess one thing to perhaps do is frequently use hashtags or mention someone's name in your tweets and then they will see your message and follow you.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Dave Schwartz Returns
« on: March 15, 2014, 12:16:51 AM »
I am curious to see how TWC (and Dave) handles this.  I am assuming Dave wants to come back, although I wonder if he has any hint of doubt based on the fact that TWC got rid of him?  And how is TWC going to treat him?  Are they going to pay him as much as he was making when they got rid of him, or are they going to start him with a lower salary?  If they choose to do the latter, then Dave must really want to come back.  Because, after all, money was the reason they laid him off in the first place.

No matter the reason, I am glad they're bringing him back, although I also agree that we probably shouldn't count on seeing him as more than a fill-in at the moment.  Cutting other OCMs or removing long-form are way over the edge at this point.

More non weather related reality shows are coming to TWC.
"Four new series are being scheduled by the Weather Channel: “Catching Hell,” about commercial spearfishers; “Now What?” about people’s behavior during weather emergencies; “Tornado Alley”; and “Wicked in the Weather,” about meteorological legends like “a bad moon rising.” Four series are being renewed, including “Strangest Weather on Earth” and “Why Planes Crash.”

Commercial spearfishers? Give me a break! I'm sure this show has as much to do about weather as Reel Rivals.

I guess TWC doesn't care about appeasing DirecTV anymore.

I've just about had it with "winter" where I am. All season long I've been under a lot of high wind watches and warning it's been driving me crazy. Even last night the high winds kept blowing against my house I barely got any sleep!

Indeed.  This winter for my area has had an unusually large amount of snow/ice storms.  Sunday's marked our sixth notable winter weather event since a mini ice storm in mid-November, a snow storm in early December, a major ice storm right before Christmas, a couple of snow storms in early February.  (All this, and we're still running below in precipitation totals.  In addition, temperatures have been cold!  Last month for Oklahoma City, the average temperature was 5.4 degrees below normal!  In fact, February was our fifth consecutive month with the average temperature finishing below normal and I think our sixth consecutive month with the total precipitation finishing below normal.

I certainly wouldn't mind transitioning from this "cold and dry" period to a more "warm and wet" period.

23°F Freezing rain/drizzle/mist (whatever you want to call it :P)

Temperatures fell rapidly within the past couple of hours, and a thin layer of ice is already accumulating on surfaces such as cars, trees, bridges, and overpasses.

The East needs to stop hogging all of our rainfall! :P  This year for Oklahoma (and really all of the southern Plains) is starting off exceptionally dry, which is not a good thing at all.  We are going to need a more stable pattern change soon, otherwise I fear much of the region will be placed back in an exceptional drought by the summertime.

13°F Sunny, feels like 3°F

I thought everything was all said and done with snow, but now we're supposed to get another snow/ice event on Monday.  :wall: :wall: :wall:

Oh believe me, Mike.  I know how you feel.

Right now, it's a pleasant 63 degrees and sunny.  Come Sunday, the high will only be 21 degrees, with freezing rain and sleet likely.

And before you say anything Tavores, I live in the south.  Winter should be done here! :P

Also, here's a snapshot from the Oklahoma Mesonet of the current temperatures across the state as of now.  Look at the difference!
