OCMs & Personalities / Re: Re: Alexandra Steele Let Go
« on: October 09, 2010, 10:21:25 PM »

I wonder if Alexandra already knew she was going to go when she did that Tomorrow's Talker segment? Yes, Alex, we've all seen that video. ;) Although I don't think her "let go" was a result of THAT, I do think that she couldn't have cared less what she said because she knew she was going to be gone anyway.

I wonder if Europe will get any affects from this storm, or will is dissipate by then or move south? :dunno: Isn't this unusual to have a storm moving this far east in the Atlantic?

The only thing they're using the video wall for now is the news and show title graphics.

I bet whoever wrote the check for that big video wall is probably kicking himself at least a little now... assuming he's still with the company.
I think that's how the video wall should have been used for to begin with, like CNN does. It's incredibly blurry for weather graphics and radar graphics and such. I think, assuming this is a permanent decision, that they finally realized this after two years.

You're right, Jesse. When I saw WC tonight, I could not believe how clear the weather graphics looked on the chroma key as compared to the video wall. If this is a permanent change, I certainly don't have a problem with it. Aren't some graphics still "unsafe" to fit on the chroma key, though?

Wow!!! :thrilled: Now that's very cool. Very professional looking, and it does look a lot better on the main page blue background. Good job, Jesse.

Guys, please, Martin specifically said not to count the OCM layoffs as a part of judging TWC in this thread. :hammer:

How do you all think they are doing (OCM choices aside)?

I know we all dislike the OCM situation, but that's not really what we're talking about in this thread. ;)

Wow, that's really funny.  :) Actually, that was a big fail on my part; I meant to make the image play on my signature, and I didn't realize it didn't work until you said that.
I forgot until now but Christina your sig image is funny  :rofl2: i almost saved it to my hard drive a month ago too

I don't get it. I'm sure the arrow spells something or makes a picture, but I'm too lazy to figure out what. :P

OT: Is the direct link weather.com not working for anyone else? I get a blank "Page Not Found" error but can get to weather.com through any other link. (i.e. www.weather.com/home or preview.weather.com)

Ms.Wizard with Stephanie Abrams?
They finally premiered that segment?

Are these new, permanent segments to WC (in addition to the Lightning Rod stuff)? :dunno: No offense to Stephanie or any of her fans, but what is the point of this? Is TWC just trying to air her more and more???

Hurricane Central / Re: Subtropical Depression 17
« on: October 06, 2010, 07:13:41 PM »
This subtropical depression has now been named "Otto" as of 5 PM EDT. However, the storm is still considered SUBtropical. Will it ever be a "real" tropical system or subtropical the entire time? :dunno:

I also don't think I've seen a storm in the Atlantic that has traveled directly northeast before without starting and making a curve first.
It will stay subtropical as some of the classifications of tropical are missing. Its kinda a hybrid of extra-tropical and tropical ;)

It's weird how a SUBtropical system can be named, since it doesn't meet all requirements of being "fully" tropical. I do know what subtropical/extratropical means after Patrick's wonderful explanation in another hurricane thread. I wonder what "requirements/characteristics" of being fully tropical Otto is missing? :dunno:

You must be talking about during the week b/c whenever I look at the schedule on the weekends, it's nothing but long-form programming. Half of the programs, I might add, I've never even heard of.
Pretty sure they've doubled the amount of weather programming from 2PM on the weekends with this recent schedule change.

What do you mean, Matt (tpirfan28)? :dunno: As far as I still see, long-form still dominates after 2 PM on the weekends. Weather coverage is good in the morning, but except for random one-hour segments, it is very sparse in the afternoon-evenings. That should be fixed.

TWC's new weekday schedule is pretty good, although it's NOT great for those in central time (i.e. me). I used to like watching PM Edition at 4 PM my time, but that obviously can't happen anymore.

Programming and Graphics / Re: New HD LDL
« on: October 05, 2010, 06:54:50 PM »
Interesting! :thrilled: Maybe this is why the large LDL had not been showing for awhile on SD.

I'm not quite clear, though, on the use of this new HD 33% LDL. I didn't think a large LDL would be used during long-form. What I would hope for though is complete discontinuation of the LDA.
