Local Forecast / Re: HD Satellite Star Update?
« on: October 17, 2010, 06:37:43 PM »
My bad if this was posted earlier (nothing came up) but are there any plans to update the current HD Satellite Star? It's been the same design for over 3 years now. There have been rumours circulating here in the past that the star would get updated in October or something

...And the SD IntelliSTAR has had the same design for over three years, too and its older designs for much longer. Why do you need to update the design every 3 or 4 years?

I know it doesn't match the design of current HD IntelliSTAR (which might be nice) at all, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Paula
« on: October 15, 2010, 07:17:20 PM »
Paula is now a remnant low, although the NHC maps are still indicating it with D's which mean depressions. Shouldn't they be L's (for remnant lows)?

Uh, the letter "L" isn't even on the legend for NHC maps, and I've never seen it used. To indicate an extratropical system, the octagonal shape with the letter indicating intensity is white instead of black. ;)

They've been in there for two months, yet I haven't heard about this at all until just yesterday when we were broadcasting it at school.

I was wondering the same thing, Mike. Something told me the story had been talked about slightly but not much because there wouldn't be much to report if for two months the miners were still trapped and nothing new happened. Since they have now been rescued, the story makes top news.

Lightning Rod really needs to be its own thirty-minute show, especially if it has high ratings.

And from reading the posts above, I guess this is still a debated topic. :hmm:

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

i highly doubt they're gonna stop using them just like that...they paid quite a lot of money for that unique feature, it's also suppose to be energy efficient.

if TWC was going to ax the video wall all together, why even spend the time and money installing it? not to mention, if they were to get rid of it, it would cost even more money to remove it.

They're not going to get rid of it. ;) Instead, it'll probably be used as a backdrop or top stories promoter or something like that. Something that I think a video wall SHOULD be used for.

Congrats on the new job, Jesse!
I've been at Home Depot since April 2009

Then why did you say it was your second day? Second day as a cashier? Then congrats on the new position/promotion...

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Paula

10 AM CDT: Paula is a CAT 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 100 mph. No threat is expected for the US, though. The very southern tip of Florida (and I guess the Keys) will even only be getting a "low" impact, as according the weather.com.

***Mike Siedel and Jeff Morrow on DP this morning.***

That's a pair you don't see every day, especially since Jeff made mention of how interesting it was.

Let's see how many more times people are going to ask about this damn video wall...

Is there something wrong with that? :dunno: I know it's annoying if people keep asking the same thing over and over, but I don't think we've gotten a straight answer from a reliable source yet about what the real deal is.

If I were to look worldwide and put all the holidays and observances into one calendar, I have a feeling that every single day would get marked with something.  There would probably be at least two observances in each week or month that cover the appropriate time period.  In my opinion, it's best to just appreciate each day we have in life rather than force every observance possible to make us aware that each day is special for a reason.

People just want 365 vacation days! :P

I literally scraped my whole body on the ground during my class softball game today. :pinch: It hurts.

Ouch. :pinch: Hope you're alright, Ana. :)

As a few others and I said over in the General TWC Discussion thread (maybe all the posts talking about the video wall there will eventually be moved here), I don't think anything is wrong with the video wall. Maybe TWC has realized the chroma-key is much clearer or since they have a chroma-key wall in the first place, why not just use it. I really don't see a problem with this and hope the change is permanent.

Yeah, I have to agree with everything being mentioned here. but I do have a question, where is the chroma key located?

I think there are two; both of which are located off that little side room with the wave graphics (or whatever is there now). I know there's definetely that swivel-one, and I believe there is another one on the wall across from it.

As Kyle said, I don't think anything is wrong with the video wall but instead, TWC has made a good decision to use the chroma-key for weather maps and stuff. It definetely does look a lot clearer than the video wall, and all graphics are safe!

Kim was indeed on with Chris and Jim tonight for WC. I wonder if this will be a permanent change with Crystal on DP and Kim on WC, or if it was just for today.

I don't really see anything special about 10/10/10.  It's just a normal day like any other.

Yeah, me either.  I don't see the big fuss about it.  Already on Facebook:
" I am proud to have been through 01/01/01, 02/02/02, 03/03/03...etc."  ANNOYING

Obviously it's just another day like the others. Some people just like paying attention to numbers. Some things may be interesting to others that aren't interesting to you.

So GET OVER IT!!!!! :club:
