General Discussion / Re: The Pot Belly Stove
« on: November 11, 2010, 06:03:36 PM »
I honestly dont know what to do with my mom and her anger anymore  :( today she came home and saw that the clock above my desk was still not changed and I try to be funny with a response like "well i can translate it ;)"; however its that my mom has a weakness to where she cant disperse sarcasm between harshness or humor, and always goes with the harshness side  so we argued for about 10 minutes and of course Im blamed. I called my dad after she went outside to "forget it", told him what happened and he said to leave her alone and hell talk to her. god i hope cuz Ive had enough emotional damage done by her in my life

Gee Zach, I'm sorry to hear that. :( I can't believe you all had to argue over a clock not being changed. I guess it would just be best not to make comments like you have been but I can understand the "weakness" or trouble even with that. At least your dad understands. :)

Programming and Graphics / Re: 11/15 Schedule Changes
« on: November 11, 2010, 06:00:21 PM »
Seems to be the start of those programming changes again

Also i went all the way through the guide and i saw a purple highlight (movie) @ 8-10pm EST on 11/26 with an encore @ 11pm - 1am EST

if it is indeed a movie TWC has decided to bring movies back
most likely only for the Thanksgiving holiday, like last year, so that the OCMs can be with their families maybe? god, you're so overreactive.

I agree, it's probably a temporary thing for Thanksgiving.

But Thanksgiving is NOT the week of the 15th, and Matt said this change was only for one week.

The most important thing is that Alex is OK. I hope she wasn't in something like a car accident or is having problems with her health, but since Martin said not to worry, I won't and will stop talking to avoid a member riot. :)

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: IntelliStar 2 Videos!

Great videos, Mark! However, I notice a BIG problem: the warning crawl is covering up some of the information on the LDL.

It's that way with the large LDL on the SD feed, too.

Comparing the HD and SD warning crawls, I think the HD is far less intrusive.  As for "BIG problem," I think it qualifies as a minor inconvenience, not as a "BIG problem."  Do you expect them to invest the time, effort, and money to completely reformat the LDL for a warning crawl which appears a small fraction of the total amount of time the LDL is shown?

I guess your right; it's not a big problem. I just don't see why TWC wouldn't think to create the LDL and warning crawl in such a way that this would not happen. Although it's a minor inconvenience, this still could have been prevented from happening. ;)

Weird...Google doesn't do that for me.
It comes up for me on the first time you do a Google search.  You have to click on the magnifying glass to the right of a search link to see a preview of it.  It's called "Instant Previews," and Google released this new feature earlier today.

Now it's working. :) And I think both this and the "instant search" options are very useful.

Programming and Graphics / Re: Video wall discontinued for green screen?
« on: November 10, 2010, 06:29:29 PM »
Hopefully the studio is still getting a good deal of use, maybe just not one that we can see on-air. Otherewise, TWC really did waste a lot of money. I don't understand why they're using "expert desk" in the old studio a lot now.

I will admit the green screen is crisper but still think the video wall should be used for some segments. And commenting on what Mike (here at the forums) said, I have also noticed and am upset about the continued lack of wide shots of the studio and the reduced number of desk positions. To be honest, that was one of my favorite things about the studio...to see what "position" the desk was going to be for a specific show.

General Weather Chat / Re: Southeast Drought Buster- Build an ark!
« on: November 09, 2010, 11:08:24 PM »
It's kind of crazy (and almost annoying for me) how Texas had a couple of tropical systems sweep across and yet most of the state is still in a drought. It's almost like there was all that rain for nothing...I know it's not good to get all of it at once, but it still seems frustrating.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: New Server/Host Performance

Things seem to be working pretty well. Out of curiosity, what was the name of our old server, and what is the name of this new one?

I appreciate a lot of you looking on the bright side about Alex still being at TWC, but I'm confused why this is still being debated. On all of the other OCM layoff topics at this forum, Martin or Jesse posted that a certain OCM was laid off and that was it. Martin did the exact same for this topic, so I don't understand what the controversy is. I know a lot us liked Alex and wish she was still a TWC OCM, but it's time to face that facts that she's probably gone.

Are you talking about the feature that "guesses" what you want to search by showing a list of websites or a different one?

Has google always had a preview of the webpage show up when you click a search result? I never noticed it before
Thats been around for about 2 months.. i hate it <_<

I like that feature! It gives me a glimpse of what's in the website.

We don't have a dedicated HD thread?

We used too...what happened to it, Martin? I know it hadn't been used in awhile, so is that the reason? :dunno:

i'm still not convinced that she is gone. 1) we don't have a reliable source that can disclose such information, 2) Cantore and Steele on facebook is still being updated (which makes no sense, why continue to name the page after a meteorologist whom is no longer on the network, when you can simply rename it), 3) her bio is still on weather.com...most meteorologist "let go" or "fired" are usually taken off the weather.com website immediately.

as for most of the responses "the bios don't come off right away" i call bull on that, there is no way of telling.

We haven't seen her in over a month, Al...if she's not gone, then where do you think she is? A month long vacation? I highly doubt it.

It is weird that a Facebook page with Cantore & Steele is still updated. As for the bios, I'm with everyone else, TWC is not good at keeping them updated, so I wouldn't use that as a soure.

FAIL/ They played Lady Gaga as they went to break during the 8pm hour of WC. /FAIL

Interesting...did someone catch a clip of this? I wonder what song it was; I can't imagine Lady Gaga as production music.
