OCMs & Personalities / Re: Mike Bettes to chase tornadoes once again
« on: June 01, 2014, 11:27:34 PM »
I think the reason the Tornado Track team has been silent recently (up until this point) is because there hasn't been any decent activity!  I'm not saying there haven't been any tornadoes, but there hasn't been anything screaming "outbreak" or "good chase day" in awhile (arguably since the late-April outbreak in the southeast).  This week could be interesting for the central Plains and Midwest, so we'll have to see what happens.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: AT&T to acquire DirecTV
« on: June 01, 2014, 11:22:11 PM »
Pretty soon there's just going to be one big "mega company" that handles it all.
Do you know for sure if that's going to happen?

I was being sarcastic. ;)  However, with all these mergers happening recently, who knows?

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: June 01, 2014, 11:21:26 PM »
Are they able to determine in the TWC ratings for shows what are actually are coming from the people getting the main feed and people getting storm coverage on the alternate feed?

Have to believe there are may people in the mid west getting storm coverage and not the non weather reality shows.

Does the so-called "dual-feed" really exist?  Or is it just a myth? :dunno:  I wish TWC would just show coverage like they should instead of making a decision to pre-empt programming only in certain areas.

Too much "hell" on The Weather Channel.  First "Highway Through Hell," and now "Catching Hell."  What's next - a show called "Burning in Hell?"

Local Forecast / Re: 4000/XL/Jr. - The End Is Near
« on: June 01, 2014, 11:15:56 PM »
As of right now, my XL is still running. Just saw the LF. So we will see what happens later on..

My XL is still downloading data as of 12:23PM Pacific Time with the analog feed... lets hope it stays this way...

Now I'm starting to question the validity of this entire thread.

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

The link Adrian provided no longer exists.  However, for those of you wondering, TWC was going to air game show segments hosted by Al Roker.  From what it sounded like though, these would only be segments and not like an entire long-form slot, but I'm not sure.  Wonder why the article disappeared so fast?

TWC pre-empted the 8 PM Eastern/7 PM Central hour of Highway Through Hell.  They seemed to focus more on the flooding in the Northeast than the severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings elsewhere and also catered to Denver a lot, which confused me because there was nothing but a few scattered storms there!  Anyway, it was also strange because the long-form WAAT was being used instead of the traditional sidebar and LDL.

I think the sidebar would clash with the pretty background.  :P

I think I may be more impressed with the hail that accumulated 5 inches deep!  That's incredible - heck, down here, 5 inches of snow is rare.  Accumulating hail like that is a phenomena I would like to observe in person at least once in my lifetime.

I can also confirm that I have only been hearing the two production songs on the LFs today.  My guess is that it's probably for severe weather coverage.  But they're not using the alert production theme, just the two others.

NOAA is also predicting a below-average Atlantic hurricane season.

I tell you, all these mergers or buying out between companies lately seems to be getting out of hand.  Pretty soon there's just going to be one big "mega company" that handles it all.

General Weather Chat / Re: SPC Convective Outlook Changes Coming
« on: May 15, 2014, 10:19:35 PM »
I seem to have overlooked this topic when it was posted.  Anyway, I feel these changes apply mainly to weather enthusiasts and other meteorologists more than just the general public.  Unfortunately, even after constant emphasis by the SPC and local NWS offices, I still do not think the public fully comprehends the meaning of three risks we already have (slight, moderate, high).  I feel plenty of people do not treat a "slight" risk with care and expect a "high" risk on days with tornadoes, even though that's not how it works.  I feel the addition of two categories will only confuse the public more.

However, for the weather enthusiasts and meteorologists, I do think it is a good idea.  The replacement of the "see text" will be nice, and the "enhanced" should provide a good common ground between slight and moderate, as I do feel that some "slight" risk days can be active but maybe not active enough to be considered "moderate."  Despite being on the lower end of the scale, perhaps these new categories will allow the SPC to stray away from issuing a "high" risk too often.  Everyone is going to have their own opinion on this, but I feel the SPC has been a little too "high risk-happy" lately.  April 28th's outbreak was warranted; April 27th I do not think was.

This is really the dumbest thing I've ever heard.  At first glance, I did not think there was anything wrong with TWC's tweet; however as the article mentions, anything like that up for interpretation that can be taken sarcastically is dangerous to put on Twitter.  Essentially, BOTH are in the wrong, though I am pretty shocked that TWC even responded to said tweet.  I mean, how many tweets a day do you think they get threatening that someone will stop watching them or delete their app, etc.?  And I highly doubt they respond to those tweets.  But I guess since this guy was a "higher up" they felt the need to respond, though I'm still not sure why.

The whole outcry is just stupid, though.  I guess it highlights the hatred between Dallas and Fort Worth.  But, heck, most smaller cities on the app don't even show the skyline - instead it's just a generic picture of clouds or whatever.  Again, this whole thing is just stupid and highly immature in my opinion.  Enough said. :hammer:
