Severe Weather / Re: Severe Weather Season 2011/Severe Wx thread

According to TWC, another severe outbreak is expected for next week. Dr. Forbes has TOR:CON values of 6 for central MO and some parts of IL on Tuesday, April 19.

I guess these outbreaks and just going to be one after another after another.

I have school on Monday (I know, very silly idea on my school's part), then I have off from Tuesday until next Monday. I'm willing to bet that my school will be more than half empty on monday :P
That's just asking for a "skip day" right there.  I don't like it either, but I've seen some professors take advantage of those kinds of days when they occurred on the college schedule.  I even earned a few extra credit points as a result by still showing up to class.

It's almost like the two days (Mon/Tues) before Thanksgiving break (Wed - Fri). I'm sure some people skip Monday and Tuesday; some schools even give the whole week off now.

I appears that TWC has switched to the green logo for Earth Day.

I guess it's "Green is Universal Week."

Still don't like the shade of green they use for the logo, though. :hmm:

Random fact: Good Friday and Earth Day are on the same day this year.

Yes I know...that was random. :P

We had some severe weather here last night...one line of storms brought heavy rain, strong winds, and some pea-sized hail for about half an hour. Areas north of here supposedly got half-dollar size hail. And when the sirens starting wailing, I was a little concerned. Luckily there were no tornadoes though.

I know this is so late to ask about WUWA music, but is narration on the IS used during vocal music for WUWA? :dunno: I remember TWC having a problem with this a few years ago...seems like it would be hard to have essentially two voices at the same time.

OK, so I just took this random pop-up survey on weather.com about this show (one question asking what you liked best about it) and found out that 92.7% (including me) didn't even watch it.

Wonder how many voters there were.

GASP, I didn't think they were ever going to pre-empt their precious "Primed for Excitement."

Double-posting, but it's amazing that a 30% chance of isolated thunderstorms turned into a 100% chance of severe storms with strong winds and even some hail. They rolled in around 4:30 this morning and lasted for about an hour.

Wow, looking at the Current Temperature map, it's clearly easy to see the warm/cold "clash" that will be causing the severe weather.

I guess this severe outbreak is more significant than the one about a week ago? Why are they pre-empting for this one? :dunno:

As Patrick said, you do have to go through a lot of paper work and stuff to get a passport, so it's kind of a pain, but the good thing is that it does last for a decade.

I don't understand why our school doesn't do tornado drills. Sure, they don't happen often or anything, but severe weather safety should still be known about in schools.
Our school has only done 1 tornado drill this year, and that was in December. In October, there really was a tornado warning and nobody knew where to go. It really is a good idea for schools to have at least 1 tornado, fire, and lockdown drill each quarter or trimester.
We have a lockdown and fire drill every month in the school year as required by the state of NJ. I think it's important that all states follow similar procedures as the safety of everyone can make a huge impact if a real fire or bomb did happen..

Wow...every month? :o That seems very frequent, considering we do have fire drills and lockdown drills, but only like twice a year.
