That's a really good idea, Alex. :twothumbs:

Or even if they didn't do that, their Weekly Planner maps on-air could at least look like the ones on weather.com...then I can actually see all the gradient changes. BUT, heaven forbid that they don't put boxes around the city-names or make the icons 10x larger, and a bunch of other "effect" junk that is often worthless. <_<

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Arlene
« on: June 28, 2011, 09:46:44 PM »
If you're all wondering what happened, aircraft reconnaissance found a closed low-level circulation and estimated surface wind speeds of 35 to 40 mph earlier this afternoon.  However, NHC thought the thunderstorm activity was too weak on satellite to classify this system.  That activity has increased over the past few hours, so NHC went straight to a tropical storm with the wind speeds from the aircraft data.

Arlene will likely be a strong tropical storm when it hits Mexico.  Unfortunately, I'm not as optimistic about this storm giving much-needed rain to Texas based on the track I see with the storm staying well to the south.
POPs in SE Texas around Brownsville area are only max 50% in the next 3-5 Days. Too bad they wont get anything "much" out of this.

That is too bad. TWC is being a little too optimistic, then. I got the information from them. :hmm:

Hurricane Central / Tropical Storm Arlene
« on: June 28, 2011, 08:41:58 PM »
Tropical Storm Arlene is the first named storm of the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season. As of 8 PM EDT, winds are sustained at 40 mph, the pressure is 1003 mb, and the storm is moving WNW at 7 mph. It looks like this storm could bring some rain to drought-stricken south Texas, although the center of the storm is expected to stay south in Mexico.

I need to clarify something here: Is TWC upgrading the old studio, the HD studio, or both?

I don't know what the "real" statistics are, but if severe weather were to hit my area, I would NOT be watching TWC. Instead I would tune in to my local news station because 99.99% of the time, TWC is not talking about the storms that are affecting my area, and even if they were, they would only talk about them for a couple of seconds and talk about other storms elsewhere in the U.S. or show more long-form. I don't why TWC calls themselves the "Severe Weather Authority" when I think most people find their local news stations more reliable for severe weather coverage anyway.

This may have been asked before, but does anyone know what font is used for the temperatures on the IS2 regional maps?
Yes. ;)

Thanks...as you can tell, I was too lazy to search through 29 pages to find the answer. :P

TWC Fan Art / Re: Weatherlover's Artwork

You could always use all three themes and have them be for different times of the day. For example, WC in the evening could be blue/orange, WC at night could be just blue, and WC after midnight could be blue/purple.

Good job on the video!

Looks like the "3D-wall" is being put to use with Carl talking about the Minot flooding. It's still not THAT impressive, but I think it's better than what we have seen.

Sorry if the link goes out of date.

For those who thought xoap.weather.com was blocked from us: guess again!

Thanks for posting these, Zach!!

Interesting how typing xoap.weather.com actually takes you to the old weather.com.

The down? Well, Severe weather can strike in an instant. Since TWC obviously could care less about anything weather these days, then obviously of course they won't utilize the dual feed. That right there, is laziness, just like as I mentioned the LDLs and squeezebacks. the XL can AT LEAST show an LDL during that time, or if they devoted a little time, make a squeezeback, it's capable of doing so, they just have their heads in the clouds working with the new equipment leaving older ones at a disadvantage. I bet the IS will no longer be getting anymore updates, since the IS2 is rolling out. <_<

Plus, I see them advertising Peter Lik tonight. So I doubt they'll preempt tonight either.

One time this week I remember them advertising Weather Caught on Camera in the morning for prime time, but then that was preempted. So don't always trust the advertising. Although, the severe weather looks like it's mostly out of the country now anyway, so I guess we can count on Peter Lik tonight.

As far as the XL, I thought TWC was eventually going to phase it out. I could be wrong (since the IS is more expensive, right?), but I have been to a few places that used to have an XL and now have an IS. Thus, this would explain why the XL is not getting updates for the LDL, squeezeback, etc.

Firefox 5 has been released.  It's mainly a security and stability update under the hood.

So any major changes (i.e. design and layout)? I got a message telling me to install it, but then it said it wouldn't support some of my toolbars and add-ons, so I declined. :hmm:

Supposedly the IS2 was going to have pollen reports and airport delay screens, none of which I have seen on videos yet. After all the "hype" that TWC gave this product years earlier, it kind of seems like the IS2 is a bit of a let-down now. :(
