Local Forecast / Re: Traffic on LDL
« on: July 25, 2014, 10:48:28 PM »
I personally think the traffic is a useful product (really would be shocked if people complained about it because they only wanted weather on the LDL), but if it's limited in what it displays, then it would be nicer if it can expand coverage if possible.  I'd be curious to know what the new traffic vendor is.

Unfortunately, with the LOT8s being so darn short, I don't see it as a good idea to make traffic a part of the LOT8s.

I'm sorry, but no one is going to be willing to help you if you act like that.  First of all, shouting LIKE THIS is strictly against the forum rules.  Second of all, this topic is now almost two months old and was clearly buried in other recent replies.

It looks like Mike has graciously provided you with some input.  Otherwise, since there has been little input otherwise, I'm sure most of us are unable to help you.

I notice that TWC has better coverage for the typhoon in the WPac than Hurricane Arthur that actually made landfall in the US.

How so?

Thanks, Evan!  Great quality too.  I was just about to post how I wish we had a video of the EF with the latest graphics, and now we do! :P  Man, that was a long outage.

WeatherSTAR Tech Support / Re: No Star on ATT Uverse?
« on: July 10, 2014, 12:11:10 AM »
Hello, and welcome to the forums.  As has been discussed quite a bit in the past, AT&T U-verse does not offer WeatherSTARs.  An entire thread was devoted on this subject back in 2010.  You can find that here.  Ironically, a four-year-old thread is still valid today!

This particular board (WeatherSTAR Tech Support) is meant for posting problems and/or suggestions for your WeatherSTAR that you see airing on TWC.  The TWC STAR Team then reads these problems and/or requests and makes changes as necessary.  U-verse not offering STARs is a topic meant more for the "TWC and your Cable Company" board.  Additionally, all posts in this board must be approved by an admin or moderator before you are permitted to post.  Thank you for your cooperation, and again, welcome to the forums.

Does anyone else find it funny that they're playing the LOT8s "storm alert" music with a July 4th background?   I don't know, it just doesn't seem to fit.  Happy 4th of July - but let's play suspenseful music anyway. :P

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Arthur
« on: July 03, 2014, 09:17:44 AM »
While this should probably come as no surprise, Arthur is now a hurricane with max wind speeds of 80 mph. The title of this topic has been updated to reflect that.

Our first hurricane of the Atlantic season!

OCMs & Personalities / Re: Kim Cunningham
« on: July 02, 2014, 11:13:22 PM »
According to Mark Elliot and based on what I've been seeing the past few days, Kim is now a Storm Specialist and a Hurricane Specialist.

OK, I think Kim does a good job and congrats to her, but why do we need more Storm/Hurricane specialists?  TWC seems to be going overboard with that title lately - pretty soon everyone is going to be referred to as a Storm Specialist or Hurricane Specialist.

Surprisingly, Arthur is still a tropical storm per the 11 PM EDT update, with max sustained winds of 70 mph.  Arthur is still expected to develop into a hurricane later tonight or early tomorrow, however,

Confirmed on Twitter TWC is in 24 hour coverage mode for TS Arthur.

The Weather Channel @weatherchannel  ·  3m
We will be LIVE all night and all day! Tune in!

Time for TWC to play "cover up" and let their ratings soar.  We, of course, go through this every year and like I say every year, I just wish TWC would treat all weather events equally.  In my opinion, a tornado outbreak (or even just a few warnings) is just as significant as a hurricane.  You're The Weather Channel, not The Hurricane Channel.

Programming and Graphics / Re: The Weather Channel - LIVE ON YOUTUBE
« on: July 02, 2014, 11:00:47 PM »
I'm pretty sure that is TWC's official YouTube page.  It's easy enough to just go to the channel which created that stream and see that.  Contrary to what Zach said, I could have thought I remember seeing an online streaming feed from TWC during a tornado outbreak one time that included the LDL and LOT8s (maybe no commercials though).  However, that was on the TWC website - yes, TWC making this available through YouTube is new.  Perhaps they have reached an agreement through Google that allows them to run an unedited feed of what viewers see on the channel?  I don't know.

As the title of the stream "test" implies, it's highly likely that TWC was only testing the live stream this afternoon and that is why it is not available at the present moment.  However, I can almost assure that the stream (or some type of live stream) will return very soon when Arthur becomes a hurricane.
