General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch
« on: July 20, 2011, 10:52:21 PM »
On another topic who's excited for The 90s are All That on TeenNick that starts this weekend? I know I am! If you don't know about it they are going to be airing 90s Nickelodeon shows on TeenNick. As of right now these shows are going to be aired...

Opening Week:

All That
Clarissa Explains it All
Doug
Kenan & Kel

Subsequent weeks in rotation:
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters
The Adventures of Pete & Pete
The Amanda Show
Are You Afraid of the Dark?
CatDog
Double Dare
GUTS
Hey Arnold!
Legends of the Hidden Temple
Rocket Power
The Ren & Stimpy Show
Rocko's Modern Life
Rugrats
Salute Your Shorts

Interesting that these shows are coming to TeenNick. I briefly remember seeing Everybody Hates Chris on that channel the other night, which surprised me because I only remember it airing on Nick @ Nite.

On another Nickelodeon-related note, would anyone be able to define the word "Nicktoons"? To me, it means cartoons that are on Nickelodeon. But now that channel seems to be showing non-cartoons/non-animated shows, which doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Cindy

So, if I'm understanding your post correctly Patrick, if a storm reaches tropical storm status but it won't remain that way for long and won't affect anyone, can the NHC choose not to name it? I thought they had to name every storm once it reached tropical storm status, whether it impacted anyone or not.
NHC's job is to designate if any system is a tropical storm, which automatically gets a name no matter what.  This system is one that could have easily been forgotten or ignored in the not too distant past.  While Cindy may technically reach tropical storm criteria, I'm questioning our entire naming system where every storm gets a name.  I'd like to see more practicality.  Do you really want to waste names on storms that are going to die very soon and provide virtually no impact?  After all, there were several name-wasters in 2005 that made us run out of names on the list, and we had to resort to the Greek alphabet.

I am kind of both ways on the situation. Whereas I don't feel we should waste names on storms that have very short life spans, I also think setting a standard for when a storm should be named may get a little confusing at times.

Cindy will be alive for no more than 48 hours before going extratropical.  Unless you're on a ship in the open Atlantic, no one is going to be impacted.  Did this one really need to be upgraded to a tropical storm?  I sense a lot of name-wasting here. <_<

So the WUWA set is gone? Forgive me, I don't watch WUWA.

That's what it's looking like. If you compare this picture with a temporary green-screen (posted by Jesse) with the one above, it looks like the new "3D green screen" shown above has replaced the entire set.

So it's looking like construction that was done in the HD studio was to install this new permanent green screen where the WUWA set used to be (and the city-backdrop and starlight corner was before that)? :dunno:

Why is the SD National LF only showing 3 Day forecasts now?

Who knows. If they're still making changes, they really need to add precipitation and thunderstorm maps. :club:

Would anyone want to see the 33% LDL return?

Absolutely not. I don't care how much more weather info it showed, it took up WAY to much space on the screen.

Well guys, in case you're wondering why you haven't seen me in several days, it is because I was overseas in Paris, France on a very fun and exciting tour with my church. :) I returned this afternoon and am glad to see you all again, although I'm not so happy to return to the Texas heat.
Oh I am so glad you got to go!! Paris is a beautiful city. Please tell me you got to go to the Louvre! Possibly the most amazing museum/place I have ever visited.

I did go to the Louvre. :) Although it was quite crowded, I was still able to enjoy most of (what I saw of) it.

Looks like this is going to be another one of those storms that will drift away from the US...a "fish" storm as some would call it.

Wow, it must have been a really nice trip!  What did you think of Paris?  I took two years of French in high school, so I learned some landmarks around that city.

Paris was great...a really nice city. I enjoyed seeing the major landmarks: Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Arc de Triomphe. The fireworks for Bastille Day were pretty neat, too.

Wow...it's amazing how people can mistranslate things....since when did me posting a picture of a camera with an NBC logo turn into me having a temper? IMO, all of us are acting childish...arguing over a freakin' picture. Lets just end it  B)

To me, and I think most others on this forum, the use of the "furious" emoticon (:furious:) means that you're having a temper or are upset about something. ;)

Notice the camera and the NBC logo :furious:

But maybe I'm just out of my mind... :whistling2:

Whew, finally. Now we can quit complaining about the old one, lol. I was ready for a new one, though. I just heard a song I liked at 4:28 my time.

Yes, now we can FINALLY stop complaining on when a new one will come out. Seems like TWC picked an odd time to launch this new playlist, though. Is 4:00 considered primetime already? :dunno:
