There's going to be lots of live coverage for this one! Here's the list (also on weather.com, but I'll post it here anyway)...

Outer Banks - Al Roker and Stephanie Abrams
New England - Jim Cantore
Nags Head, NC - Mike Seidel
New Jersey - Adam Berg
Norfolk, VA - Eric Fisher

Didn't they have about six people out in the field for Don the Dud also?

Can't remember. But I don't remember this many field reporters for storms in previous years, so I guess TWC has expanded its live coverage "program"...probably to attract more viewers.

Carl Parker out in the field...that would be neat! Maybe he doesn't want to do it, though.

What is causing Irene to turn? Is there a trough or pressure system over the U.S.? :dunno: I am amazed at how much the track has changed as compared to earlier this week.

Despite the fact that Irene may not be making a "traditional landfall" (go right from water to land), this situation of Irene "skimming" the east coast is probably worse because it's effecting such a long stretch of land with it's most dangerous part: the eye wall.

Well, from our 5 PM latest advisory, it's looking like Irene will make landfall as a CAT 2 (or perhaps weaker) in CT or RI. NYC will definitely fell effects from the storm.

Is "Breaking NOW" supposed to be "Breaking NEWS" on weather.com right now? They may end up changing this before anyone gets to see it.

I don't think it's a typo, I think it's supposed to say "Breaking Now"

Anybody a little surprised Jim is still in the studio tonight? They sent Mike Sidel out to FL (he'll probably be relocated) and Eric out to NC. I figured Jim would be the first or one of the first to be deployed out to a location for Hurricane Irene.

Someone (maybe Jim or Seidel) will probably be going to the NE.

Andy, you forgot tornadoes, tsunamis and blizzards too :P it was def my first earthquake, I didn't even know we had a fault line

Well I was mainly talking about events that have happened this summer (I guess I should have included tornadoes on the list, though.) :P

Anyway, are there any reports of damage in the NE?

What's causing the storm to turn? Is there some pressure system over the northeast? :dunno:

I recall someone saying in another thread that conditions this year are not the same as they were last year, but I am almost seeing another Earl on our hands. Still, though, the east coast should be preparing for anything.

TWC has always been good about their coverage on hurricanes. We never seem to have to question that. It's mainly the severe storms/tornadoes in the country that we sometimes have to wonder about, although I admit TWC is getting better with it.

I don't know guys, the way this track keeps moving east, the more I keep thinking the U.S. may dodge a bullet for a direct-hit on this one. Now it looks like Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland are the ones in danger.

Depending on how some people want to look at the situation, it's either unfortunate or a good thing that Irene's projected path keeps turning in a northeasterly direction towards the end of the week. It looks extremely close to the US, so effects will definitely be felt, but I am now starting to wonder if it's going to make a US landfall at all, or have the eye wall/eye every so slightly brush the east coast. The models have really been shifting around all day.

I wasn't a member of this forum during the last landfalling U.S. hurricane, so I have a question...

Is it expected (or requested, or just asked for) that those in the path of a hurricane or other tropical system post reports about what's going on?  I think it would make for some interesting reading.  I'm not working Thursday, Friday, and the first half of Saturday, so I'll be able to write about the storm so long as the power holds out.

Who else is in the expected path of the storm?  Where are you?  I'm in Daytona Beach, Florida, and tropical storm conditions are expected here from Thursday night through Saturday morning.  Right now, they're predicting we'll probably escape most hurricane-force winds, since the track keeps shifting to the east.

Please post reports, if you can Eric. :) It's always very interesting to hear accounts from members who are experiencing the storm first-hand.

But as Patrick said, you are not required to do this. It's not like you're going to be permanently banned or anything if we realize you are in the path of the storm but don't post anything. Just remember, safety is your #1 priority. It probably isn't a good idea to be on the computer and write about a hurricane if you are somehow caught in the middle of one. ;)

BTW, are you going to have to evacuate?
