Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: New Banner

Andy: Is the alert logo for Hurricane Irene ever going to be taken down?
Jesse: It's been down for days. What the heck are you talking about?
Andy: Weird, just as you mentioned something, I no longer see the banner.

:P

Wow, from what the current paths show, it looks like Lee and Katia are going to run into each other towards the end of the week! I guess Lee will be post-tropical and will be "overthrown" by Katia if she does hit land, but areas such as NC and VA may want to watch out for two possible storms.

EDIT: Scratch that idea. From the models that Alex posted in the other thread, it looks like I'm completely wrong. :P Most models have Katia turning far north before it even comes to the U.S.

Wow, thep projected paths for Katia still aren't showing the curve northward, and the forecast has it getting closer and closer to the U.S. with a possible landfall that Savannah is overdue for! :o Maybe Katia will begin making an unexpected turn to the north sooner than what is being forecasted or make a last minute turn, but we definetely will now need to watch this one closely.

Maybe they're assuming it's late and that Lee coverage could take a couple-hour break, especially considering they have pre-empted for such a long stretch of time. This may give the OCMs and producers a break. Weather Center Live will be returning at 1 ET, according to weather.com, and coverage should be continuous torrow.

EDIT: Did they redo the Satellite LDL? It looks like the blue is darker and the templates that display the weather info look black. It looks much better this way imo.
I think the bar got darkened, however, when I see it on my tuner, it looks like the red templates seen on the red LDL... worth mentioning that HD feed is the same way too

The darker blue looks good, but I don't like it that the boxes with the weather info side them are now black.

I have good news and bad news for the Southeast.  The good news is that your drought will pretty much be over by the end of next week.  The bad news is that a good portion of your area will be underwater thanks to 10-20" of rain. :hmm:  Start taking precautions now, because there's going to be some devastating flooding ahead with Lee.

Except for Texas. :(

And Martin, I agree with you. I don't think areas far inland like Nashville have to deal with storm surge and rip currents

Let me know when the speed problem is fixed. I, too, have been having problems with extremely slow loadings and was not sure if it was just the slow Wi-Fi here or the forums themselves.

:censored:!! Texas isn't going to be getting anything from this as the track shifts farther east and has more of a definiete NE path. Depending on how far NE it travels, areas that do not  need rain whatsoever are going to get rain.

By any chance, were any one of the three attempts for those long poems you posted? I think that could have slowed the boards. In my opinion, one thread for poems is sufficient, rather than a new topic just for one poem. ;)

While we are on the subject of college, I am going to take the time to be a little more "open" about myself. I don't want this to be extremely awkward, but I realize that I have never revealed my age or "level" in education. There is no good reason for this, but since I have reached a new stage in my life, I would like to share it with you all.

I just started college this year. I am studying meteorology at the University of Oklahoma and am, so far, very excited about it. For those of you who may not know, The National Weather Center is located on the campus, and it is both school-operated and government-operated. I believe Patrick visited there sometime earlier this year, if I remember correctly. Therefore, because of the location of The National Weather Center on campus, this university has a very good meteorology and research department. In addition, from looking at and hearing about past weather events, Norman gets all kinds of weather: tornadoes in the spring (something they specialize in), excessive heat in the summer, and winter storms in the winter.

I, too, would like to wish the best of luck for those of you who are also in their first year of college. :)

Preliminary track, it's further west than I was thinking yesterday.

This track looks at lot like Hurricane Earl's from last year. IIRC, Earl didn't affect the East Coast too greatly, so hopefully Katia will miss the U.S. as the Northeast certainly does not need any more rain at the moment.

I have to comment on the projected path once again for this system because, other than the pretty definite path defined over the next 24 hours or so, the rest is just a big circle. I guess this is really going to be a hard storm to forecast.

Right now, the track has TD 13 heading northeast. Although the track is very uncertain at this point, I really wish it would head northwest to Texas. We desparately need the rain! <_<

Wow, they really seem to be hyping this thing. Guess it's so they can brag about being the "Hurricane Authority." I am surprised when you said the LDL is missing. Think it'd be red by now. :P

Hmm, from the looks of it, projected paths don't have Katia making a major northward turn through Tuesday yet. I wonder how close to the east coast it's going to come.
