Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Dolly

Tropical Storm Dolly will be short-lived but is our fourth named storm in the Atlantic. :)  Winds currently at 50 mph.

May not even be worth mentioning, but a new tropical depression has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and will push westward over the next couple of days.  It's expected to strengthen, however, and if it does, it will become Dolly.  We'll see...

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Cristobal
« on: August 26, 2014, 04:32:23 PM »
Hurricane Cristobal is now our third hurricane of the Atlantic season, which means all named storms in the Atlantic so far have reached hurricane status at some point during their life cycle - a big change from last season.

Cristobal's winds are at 75 mph as of the 2 PM EDT advisory.  Bermuda may see some impacts from this system; otherwise, the storm will mainly be out in open waters.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Ask TWC Anything! (Well, almost)
« on: August 26, 2014, 04:27:14 PM »
Alright guys, a couple of things.  First, I've taken everything you all have said or asked about Sam's visit to TWC and put it in his original topic.  There was no reason to clutter the General TWC Discussion thread with all this.  Second of all, everyone needs to calm down.  Sam, I think it is great that you got to visit TWC, but only posting vague cues such as "Keep your eyes pealed later this year" or "I can't say at the moment"  is likely going to frustrate people.  Unless TWC told you to keep this confidential (which, if that's the case then I'm not sure why you posted a topic like this in the first place), it would have been better to say you had a friend who works at TWC from the start so we all understood the situation.  A few of your other posts, like stuff you received from TWC, are also pretty useless if you can't provide background as to how or why you got what you did.  Please know that I'm not trying to attack you or anyone else, just trying to provide some helpful information on how to post here in the future.  I will admit that sometimes I get upset if people say they got some big news from some secret source about something.  Well, what the heck does that mean?!  This goes to everyone on here: If posting important information, it's a good idea to back up the source and explain what you're talking about.

Sam, I look forward to you posting the answers to the questions people asked you in this topic.  I am sure we are all curious on TWC's future direction and things of that matter.

I hope everyone understands.  Any more issues, and I will be forced to lock this topic.  Thank you.

Wasn't sure if I should make a new topic on this or not, but...

Hurricane Marie in the Eastern Pacific is yet another major hurricane in that region - a strong Category 4 with sustained winds of 150 mph!  Looks very pretty on satellite.  The storm is not expected to impact any land, however.

Hurricane Central / Hurricane Cristobal

45-mph Tropical Storm Cristobal is now the third named storm in the Atlantic.  This storm could become the season's third hurricane by Wednesday morning (which means all three named storms so far would have become hurricanes at some point during their life cycle).  However, based on the latest models and official NHC projected path, this storm should NOT pose doom and gloom to the US.

ive seen that promo several times on my cable system, it does it when it shows the local cable providers own ads. happens on a lot of the channels. it does the same promo stuff for other channels like hdnet, axstv, espn, sec network... i even saw an older local on the 8s ad from the intellistar 2 before its weather all the time upgrade, during the time the update already took place. apparently somebody likes showing older adverts!

Oh, that's right.  I forgot that Cable Companies often like to throw in their own ads from time-to-time.  It can be annoying on TWC because then it disrupts the WAAT.

Saw this promo while watching Fox Sports 1 on Friday.

Local On The 8s Promo

I know this has been talked about before, but I'm surprised a commercial promoting an NBC Universal channel is being shown on a FOX-owned network.

Well this is really awkward because I seemed to have overlooked this thread, but hi Ana and Patrick.  Nice that you're still able to stop by, Ana, and Patrick, I wish you all the best in your life.  Thank you for taking time to continue to watch the forums and post every once in awhile. :)

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Iselle

Interesting (and possibly historic) times ahead for Hawaii. The last time a hurricane struck there was 22 years ago when Hurricane Iniki struck the island chain in September 1992.

What is it with all these "I" named storms?! :fear:

This will be interesting to watch, though.  As of the 5 AM HST update, winds are now down to 80 mph, so we'll have to see if it does indeed remain a hurricane at landfall.  Either way, Hawaii is going to be in for a rough couple of days.

Iselle in the Eastern Pacific is now a MAJOR Cat 4 hurricane with max sustained winds of 140 mph.  Very pretty storm, but Hawaii is in trouble and needs to start preparing for this.  The "good" news is that it should weaken to a tropical storm before striking the islands.

Bertha is now the second hurricane of the 2014 Atlantic season, with max sustained winds of 80 mph.  Should stay well east of the US.

OCMs & Personalities / Re: "The Front" thank you gift
« on: August 01, 2014, 11:23:07 PM »
I merged the two topics created by Eric and Matthew about this "thank you gift" because there was really no reason for two separate topics talking about the exact same thing.

In all honesty, this really does not surprise me. I have no idea how many people filled out the survey and are receiving this gift, but do you really expect Jim Cantore to sign each photo?  There are plenty of instances I can think of in which people make copies of their signatures or use a stamp or something instead of authentically signing.  I am sure most people receiving the photo probably do not care - as long as Jim's signature is on there, they're happy.

Just noticed these icons on the Xfinity X1 TWC Weather app!  :thrilled:

Those icons look very similar (they may even be the same set) as what was on weather.com right before the November 2013 relaunch ... before the icons became extremely simplified.

We may have another relaunch in the works!

Sorry, but what are you linking to?

November relaunch planned!? @Gt1racer: @freddyflaxman thanks for the reply Freddy is there an update coming soon to maybe allow new graphics to be shown during programming and 8s?

@Gt1racer: @freddyflaxman @gdlott reason I ask is because the Sat/Sun on the 7 day outlook is transparent and unreadable on this http://t.co/XdWoOdfQ3P

@freddyflaxman: @Gt1racer @gdlott Yep! We have improvements to legibility coming down the pipeline.

I'm sorry, but I am really confused as to what all these replies are indicating and where you are getting the idea there will be another relaunch.  The "November relaunch planned" to me sounds like it's referring to the relaunch from last November, and the improvements to legibility coming only sound like minor tweaks to the LOT8s and not an entire relaunch.
