Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: Should the TWCC presence stay?
« on: September 11, 2011, 09:13:46 PM »
Apparently, I'm still not explaining myself well. I'm only talking about the TWC Classics presence. So the only subforums that would be removed are:

TWC Classics News
Contributions
Comments, Questions, or Complaints.

Sorry. I thought you meant ALL discussion on classic TWC would be removed from these forums...my mistake. But now this makes it confusing. "Classics" is going to be removed from the name but we will still have discussion sub-forums that say TWC 1982-1999?

Sorry, I know this shouldn't be that hard to figure out; guess I'm not thinking tonight.

I would have to say that the "Local Forecast" thread is pretty popular, especially judging from the comments above about the desire to find playlists. "OCMs" ranks second in terms of activity for the classics sub-forums. However, "Programming" and "Everything Else Classic TWC" aren't receiving much activity. Maybe we could just get rid of those, if need be? :dunno:

General Discussion / Re: 9/11/01: It's been 10 years...
« on: September 11, 2011, 02:15:49 PM »
I really appreciate Zach's and Tavores's comments, because I can relate more to them. I have started to feel upset and almost guilty about this tragedy because I don't have an extensive memory of what happened. I know others of my age who have this vivid memory of practically every minute of September 11. They know where they were and exactly what they were doing, whether it was watching the crashes on TV in school or seeing their teachers cry, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have such a story to tell. But I have learned from my parents that this is because the school wouldn't tell us what was going on because some kids had parents over in NYC at the time and didn't want them to worry. So I guess if I didn't know what was going on, I couldn't really have a memory of it.

I was in the 3rd grade at a private school. Like I said above, the school refused to tell us what was going on. The only thing I remember about school that day was overhearing some comments about plane crashes. But that's about it. So (this is certainly not to offend anyone), I didn't really think too much of it because I was so ignorant.

Basically the part about that day I remember is was in the evening. I was watching TV in another room, and then my mom called out to me to see if I wanted to watch what had happened earlier that morning. Again, I seemed stubborn but eventually made my way out to the room. Looking at the plane crashes did not seem real to me, so I couldn't really break down and cry. Once again, this is probably because I was so naive. But maybe a third grader should have more knowledge on terrorism, IDK...

Despite how I felt ten years ago, my biggest condolences go out to those who lost loved ones in this tragic event. And may we remember those hereos who gave their lives up for others!

Matt, I don't want to hurt your feelings, but to me it seems like no one has that much of an interest in talking about the classic TWC. I personally have no first-hand experience of the classic TWC like some of our older members, and although I sure wish I did, I as well as other members would rather focus on the current TWC, despite its crappy state.

With this being said, I do not think having a forum for the classic TWC was ever a bad idea. However, I can understand your frustration; if I had an interest that no one else shared, I would be frustrated to. Surely there are some people who would like to follow the classic TWC. Those people, however, are just not at these forums. And I wouldn't know how to attract them.

Now I am sorry this opinion is coming from a "younger" member. My opinion would probably be of much more value if I had actually watched TWC in the 80s and 90s and still believed I would rather focus on the current TWC, but sadly I wasn't born yet or was too young to watch the classic days.

To conlude this long post, do you mean you would COMPLETELY remove the "classics" subforums, or split away from TWCT again and revive the TWCC forums? I would certainly hate for you to have to take what you have loved doing and get rid of it just because no one else is interested.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Tabs and Mobile Layout Questions

TABS
Before a forum upgrade, we had tabs that said "Today" and "Classics," which allowed us to easily navigate to the home page of each site. I do not see these when I am logged in, however I do see them when I log out. Don't know what the issue is here, but it would be nice to see these brought back, if possible.

MOBILE LAYOUT
Are the forums no longer available in "mobile layout" (i.e. for the iPhone) anymore? I remember this being an option under "Look and Layout," but it is no longer there.

Thank you! :)

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Maria
« on: September 10, 2011, 12:19:41 PM »
Maria is going to have a tough time ahead

Looks like you are correct, Martin. The intensity levels keep changing for this storm. Now Maria is forecasted to become no more than a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph as we head into Thursday of next week.

Current winds are 40 mph as of the 11 AM EDT advisory, and Maria may even weaken to a TD before slightly strengthening again on Monday morning.

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Nate
« on: September 10, 2011, 12:14:36 PM »
What once had the potential of being a hurricane and possibly moving north to bring some rain to Texas is now becoming another big disappointment and "fail" of a storm. Nate will become no more than a weak tropical storm as it moves directly west (and maybe even a little SW) in Mexico over the next couple of days.

The :censored: DMN site wants me to get "Subscriber Access" to read the story. Do you mind posting the full story here? Obviously, it's going to be a long and painful project. I will not be driving on that interstate for a matter of years.

General Discussion / Re: The Front Porch
« on: September 09, 2011, 06:44:46 PM »
It's forecasts like mine that make me wish the Pot Belly Stove will reopen soon  :bleh:. Monday, we hit a high of 74 and reach a low of 49. Tuesday, our high reaches only 59, and our low sits at 37. Things should only get colder from there.

...and it's forecasts like mine that make me wish the Front Porch would stay open (hopefully the porch has a ceiling fan). :P Temperatures will only get hotter through next week, and triple-digits may make the return on Tuesday.

Hurricane Central / Re: Tropical Storm Nate

Texas may as well give up on any chances of rain from these tropical systems. Lee went the wrong direction, and Nate looks like no threat to the U.S. at this point (except maybe Brownsville). Here is the projected path for Nate, as of the 4 PM CDT advisory.

Does anyone know the longest-lasting tropical storm that actually never became a hurricane? This one seems like it could fit that criteria, as it looks to be alive for several days but not form into anything major.

Everything Else TWC / Re: Blooper Thread

On the Tropics Watch map at the beginning of this hour of WCL, they showed an XL snow icon twice for a few seconds :o

Wait...what?!?!

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Katia
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:07:51 PM »
It looks like Katia won't be a direct threat to the U.S. Maybe some outer rain bands will reach the coasts, but rip currents look to be the biggest threat. Also, notice the rapid de-intensification (word?) Katia will be going through from Thurs AM to Fri AM.

TWC has got their Wednesday and Thursday mixed up on their projected path map, too. Guess nobody proofreads these.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: New Banner
« on: September 06, 2011, 03:57:01 PM »
Hate to be a spoiler, but you guys need to realize Jesse is playing games with you guys when he says that the banners have been down for days... xD

And Jesse seems so serious about it. :P I've always suspected he's just playing with us but didn't want to get into an argument or anything.

Well, the banner's down now; thank you to whoever removed it.

This time it is highly probable that the Irene banner has not been taken down yet. However, I am also confused at the instances seen earlier in this thread where people mention that the banner is still up, and Jesse says it has been gone for days.

And some of you may just be thinking "Well, it is just a banner. What's the big deal?" But I feel that an out-of-date banner gets old after awhile and makes the entire forums look out-of-date.
