Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion
« on: September 20, 2011, 06:39:42 PM »
My problem with TWC is a lack of access to products in this current age.  If it's 12-after the hour and I want to see a radar, I either have to wait six minutes (or trending toward 8 now)........or change the channel to my local station's wx subchannel that runs a radar every couple minutes (and gives a local weather update with a meteorologist every 10-15 minutes).

Personally I think it's time for TWC to completely ax the classic Local AND the lower line for a complete Weatherscan-type format...programming constantly surrounded by an L-bar with constant radar and wx information (unless there are special circumstances, like a hurricane).

(apologizes to the ownership for the mess created by my post...I'll clean up the exploded heads.)

I am starting to think that's where they're headed, too. A lot of stations now a days have a format like this, with an L-Bar simultaneously running with live programming.

In all honestly, what would this hurt if TWC has a 24-hour L-Bar? Playlists? I think TWC could survive without them. The IS2? That would certainly be a waste of money, so this may be a problem. Lack of local weather information? If TWC goes this route, they should re-design the L-Bar to include more information and local information for XL viewers.

Wait, does the stove open this Friday or when winter starts?

The Stove will re-open this Friday for the first day of fall. We use the Stove for fall and winter, and the Front Porch for spring and summer. :)

Unfortunately, I would like to stay out on my Front Porch because temperatures have now just started to cool down a little and become bearable. I don't want to leave just yet! :P

Fall is coming pretty quickly around the corner. Official autumnal equinox is Friday, September 23rd, at 9:04 Zulu. Then again, that doesn't exactly mean much temperature wise for some of you.  :bleh:
Guess that means its almost time to leave the porch and crank up the stove :P

Not yet...can we wait a few weeks (or months) please. :P

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Central 2011

Looks like our "N" storm may be in the works. 60% chance of development in the far Eastern Atlantic.
Here was already an N storm. :P I think you mean O.

How could you forget about TS Nate? :club:

Lol :P. Well anyway, it certainly wasn't much. However, as Tavores said, I didn't realize some of the moisture we got here this past week was partially due to that TS. I remember some of the models tracking it NE again once it crossed over MX...maybe that's what happened.

Andy did you really have to post that? that just adds fuel to the fire. back on topic with the recent changes of the removal of the Outdoor Activity and Schoolday Forecast I wasn't surprised they removed the short locals for the squeezeback.

Post deleted. Please excuse my immature behavior. :wall:

Anyway, I personally think the squeezeback can be just as useful as the full-screen LF if they would make a 2 minute flavor of it and use the same screens, etc.

It's sad that some of you are leaving these forums, just because of the declining state of TWC. I know this is a Weather Channel enthusiast forum, but I personally have made so many friends here and have had a good time talking about things non-TWC related that I wouldn't even think about leaving. :)

But it's certainly your choice. We will miss those of you who will be leaving...

Everything Else TWC / Re: Redesigned website coming soon!
« on: September 18, 2011, 12:48:58 AM »
TWC is making updates on their site little by little. Now instead of having that old bar across the top for alerts, a new bar shows notices for pollen alerts, freeze warnings, severe thunderstorms, etc. Don't know if this has been around for a long time or not; I just noticed it the other day.

Loved the video, by the way! But here's a question: who (or what) determines what meteorologists get to talk about her? For example, Cantore obviously has to give his input. Jeff Morrow and Nick Walker as well. But what about Abrams, Bettes, Warren, and Egger? I'm guessing it's because they are the hosts of the top-rated shows. But have either Egger or Warren, for example, ever worked with Vivian on air? I know there is some behind-the-scenes stuff where they may have worked with her, but I don't see how they can really say much if they've only been there for a few years.

When hell freezes over :P

Aw, come on Zach...where's your winter spirit? :P

I am not quite familiar with the "timing" of Norman's wintry precip, so I'll predict that sometime around mid-December will be our first snowfall.

Has any new areas Aquired the IS2? Still no Xinity Headends have it yet.

I just tuned into TWC HD today for like the first time in a month and I'm happy to announce that Cincinnati/Covington/NKY has the IS 2 now :)

Edit: We still have the XL too just in case if anyone's wondering.

An XL AND an IS2? And in Cincinnati...?

Al Gore needs to go sit on the polar ice caps and see if they really are melting or not. And stay there.

Well, that would be one way to determine it! :rofl2:

Also, to Alex: Your current conditions for Gorham, NH at 12:05 ET are showing blowing snow and a very chilly 25 degrees. Are those observations correct?

I was agreeing with you. Which is what I started out saying bluntly and pretty much leaving it at that, but after about 10 re-edits it ended up just being my own rant. It was late. haha Had nothing to do with any arguments with you... cause I have none. In fact, after re-reading your post quote then what I said... I fail to see how it had nothing to do with your post. I'm sorry if you feel that way, let me know if you'd like me to remove your quote and I will gladly do so. :dunno:

No, it's fine...no worries. :) What you said actually had to do with my quote; I was talking about skywarnal for that part.

But anyway, I hope we can find out soon what the deal is with this squeezeback. Too bad they can't make a 2 minute flavor of it; that would give viewers more information.

I bet this won't be permanent, TWC is just trying to scare you  :P

My honest opinion it will be gone in the next couple weeks and we could put this little charade to rest.

OK, so one moment someone says this is going to be permanent, and the next moment someone else says this is only temporary. Now I'm really confused  I guess as with any change, we'll just have to wait and see...

Also, I am even more confused with those of you who are quoting my posts (Kevin and skywarnal) but then either saying the same thing I did, even though it looks like you're trying to argue with me, or getting upset and then mentioning something that doesn't even have to do with what you quoted.

Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Re: Link from TWC Classics?

I think it would be a good idea, too. I know it's such a minor addition, but what if someone who doesn't know about these forums visits the TWCC site? If they saw a forums link on the site, they might just become interested in the forums. You never know... :whistling:
