Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

Anyone know why they are using an odd OCM schedule for Weather Center Live tonight?

7pm Paul Goodloe & Kim Cunningham
10pm Chris Warren & Crystal Egger
1am Paul Goodloe & Kim Cunningham

Is this a test that might become a permanent change or just a change in schedule due to something else?

To be honest, I would rather see Paul and Kim on "early" Weather Center than Chris and Crystal. I miss the old days when Paul and Alex did EE together. :(

Caught this little error earlier...

The IStar's programming LDL logo is shown (without the IStar LDL) over the national LDL. Certainly not the first time this has happened.

Off topic, but who's that giving the weather report? If it's Crystal Egger, she looks different.

Just as long as you're not learning to drive in TEXAS...ugh. I find it extremely hilarous that the "Welcome to Texas" road signs have writing underneath that say "Drive Friendly, the Texas Way." Well, if we all drove the "Texas way," we would probably never want to get in another vehicle again. Where do I begin? Slow drivers in left lanes, lack of turn signals, etc...

And as far as traffic goes, well, let's just say that in Dallas a new interchange was being built a few years ago to relieve congestion. The product? WORSE traffic!!! The roads and the drivers in Texas has a lot to be desired.

Stands out more. ...branding.

If they want it to stand out, why not just keep the blue one? :dunno: That one looks better than this piece of crap, IMO.

TWC Fan Art / Re: Michael's TWC Fan Art Portfolio

Cool concept, but I think this is already the case with long-form. The only local forecasts shown are at :28 and :58. The LDL is what provides local forecast information for :08 and :18 during long-form and is no longer shown for the entire duration on long-form.
I know that. I just wanna show what would happen if the current LF settings for long-form programming would be further shortened...as in...hard to read.

Oh, I get you now! At least yours is actually legible! :P Hope TWC would never get the idea of making the LOT8s during long-form about the size of the alert scroll for the IS2. That's a scary thought...

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Ophelia

Wow, it's amazing to see how a once-dissippated, going-to-be-nothing Ophelia is now a CAT 4 hurricane with max. sustained winds of 140 mph! :o

TWC has changed the logo during taped programming to white block that is almost not transparent with slightly gray lettering.
It looks to distracting and they should change it back to white text a clear outlined box.

That's ugly! The original transparent "glass" logo was just fine. Why did TWC need to change it?

It's nice to see Oklahoma getting average precipitation for the winter in your forecast. :) We need the rain badly here too, and although we've gotten some over the past couple of weeks, we could use buckets more.

**ATTENTION!!! The above data has been modified. The Metroplex hit the century mark AGAIN today!!!

Seasons are not cooperating in Dallas this year. Back in May there was a day in which the high temperature only reached 53 degrees, when the normal high was supposed to be 80. Now, fall has arrived, the normal high is 84, but the century mark has been hit once again for the Metroplex. This now brings DFW up to a total of 71 triple-digit days for the year!!!
**NOTE: The latest triple-digit day ever recorded for Dallas was October 3. We were so close!

And of course, this is not surprising:

IntelliStar 2 Discussion / Re: IntelliStar 2 Beta Launch
« on: September 29, 2011, 06:42:56 PM »
EDIT: Also, regarding the thread title, should the IS2 still even be considered a beta launch if it's already showing up in several major cities/markets now?

Well, we've kind of misused this thread. It was originally created just to mention a beta launch for Nashville. Now most of our IS2 discussion is here. There really is a separate thread for IS2 videos, although I am seeing most people post their videos of the IS2 here (which makes sense) because this is where most of the discussion is.

TIME FOR SOME STATISTICS!
Summer is over, but it will hardly be forgotten by those living in the Metroplex, especially since it officially beat out the infamous 1980 for being the hottest summer on record! The two graphics below show exactly how hot it was this year, how this intense heat broke all kinds of records, and how this summer compares with the summer of 1980.

IMPORTANT NOTES
*With the exception of the "71 days" you see as the total number of triple-digit days for the year and the number of record highs and record high minumums you see for the overall summer, all data is valid for the meteorological summer (June 1 - August 31).

*Valid September 29, 2011: The Metroplex hit the triple-digit mark again. Even though this date does not fall in the summer season, the data below has been modified to reflect the new value of 71 days of triple-digit temperatures for the year and the total number of record highs for this year.

As shown by the graphic in the post above, DFW did break the long-standing record of 69 triple-digit days in a year. But does anyone remember how DFW fell only three days short of breaking a record for the most consecutive days of triple-digit temps? Well, as you can see by the above table, this was the first year in which the Metroplex set two top-10 records for the most consecutive days of triple-digit temperatures. Imagine if those had been tied together!!! :o

Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion

When you guys are saying L-bar, you do mean squeezeback... right? 'Cause to me the L-bar is the old style L-bar with current conditions for cities across the US scrolling on the left side with a radar at bottom left and local conditions along the bottom. The squeezeback is what they've been using lately that comes on the 8's where it has the clouds behind it with local information and squeezes the broadcast in to the upper right corner.

Yes, we are using the terms "L-Bar" and "squeezeback" interchangeably. ;)

How long is temporary? I don't understand why they can';t just get rid of it and bring back the regular locals.

Well, as metioned earlier, there is probably a "method to their madness." I am assuming (and believe someone mentioned this) that ratings or viewership or something is showing that the squeezeback being used most of the time for locals is a good idea.

What Tyler said in the General TWC Discussion thread was that it was being temporariliy disabled "to fix a few things" and then "to send out an update." What this means...IDK. I would like to know if this "fixing a few things" and "update" has to do with bugs in the system loading or whatnot, or if TWC is updating the graphics of the squeezeback to fit HD better and make better use of the screen.

I'm unable to check...are the locals at :28 and :58 (when the squeezeback is being used at all other times) 1:30 or 2:00 flavors? :dunno:
