Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion

Alright, hold up a second.  DirecTV has an actual IntelliSTAR? I know they had that "local weather app" or whatever it is, but I didn't realize they had an IS. When did this happen?

Also, why in the heck would the playlist be different for the IS and National Feed? I'm confused.

Winter Weather / Re: Winter Storm Thread: 2011-12 Season

Well, before we talk about the Northeast, we need to talk about Texas! Amarillo (in the panhandle) saw 2.5 inches of snow today!!! That's a record for any one calendar day. And winter's still under a couple of months away! :o

Hurricane Central / Re: Hurricane Rina

Track of the unexpected? If this is a good representation of what is to come, Floridians no longer need to be worried about Rina. The Yucatan Peninsula will be getting a lot of rain, however.

The storm will now be headed south-southwest and weaken to a depression by Saturday afternoon. I don't think any of the models were predicting this originally. I am assuming it is the cold front that will be "blocking" Rina from making a the turn northward. I also read where the land interaction, the small size, and some wind shear will be killing Rina.

Rina never became a major hurricane as predicted, and it looks like the storm will continue weakening from this point on.  Should Florida be worried about anything, I guess it would be the extensive rainfall.  I still don't know if the core of the storm will go that far north, or not.

The northeast always misses out on these things. :(

What do you mean the NE always misses out on these things? You probably have a better chance of seeing it than those further south.

According to Paul's little explanation on weather.com, last night was not the only night to see the Aurora Borealis; supposedly the lights' far stretch south was going to continue for awhile. But it's a clear night tonight, and I don't see anything. Maybe I am too far south.

Anyone else have changes made to their IS2? Here in Topeka we had another city added to our "mini" radar in the bottom left corner and also "The Week Ahead" screen has moved down some. I don't see any other changes right now. Wish the Precip screen would be added to either the LOT8's or the LDL.

Maybe that's a logical explanation for why so many seemed to be disappearing all of a sudden.

Hey guys, have a curious question -

Do you guys ever feel worried or concerned when you're traveling on a bridge? I get goosebumps every time I commute from New York, mainly because I'm on the George Washington Bridge and I always think about the "what if.." scenario if something happened while I was on the bridge. Ya know, the mighty Hudson River and a 300+ foot tall bridge is the only thing that separates each other and it does worry you in a way..

While driving, no. If I was walking, then yes. I guess it's safe to say I have a fear of heights because I can't seem to lean on the rail of a bridge or platform without feeling an extremely tight feeling in my stomach. :(

I just really don't know if this will threaten the U.S. at all. This system is moving extremely slowly, and a cold front that is moving southeast will likely block the hurricane from hitting anywhere on the Gulf Coast.

This system has really intensified quickly. Although this is a slow-moving system and it will be difficult to tell at this moment whether it will make a northeast turn or not, I think folks in Florida should keep their eye on this one.

Ah, thanks for the info, Zach.

Anyone remember seeing this during Irene?
Idiot on The Weather Channel

Ugh, don't remind me. :P

That video of the people acting so disrespectful to Eric pisses me off to the highest extreme. :furious: Yes, I understand people desperately want their fame on TV, but I had no idea there was yet another streaker (clearly seen this time), plus other jerks who walked in front of Eric while he was doing his live shots! I don't care how famous people want to be, that was beyond unacceptable. I'm very distrubed to see such jerks. <_<

The calm before the storm...

This is what the sky looked like 30 minutes prior to severe thunderstorms ravaging Norman last night. If I had turned the camera 90 degrees to the left, you would have seen some serious, dark, threatening clouds.

In response to the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Turkey, Steele was giving an interesting demonstration of earthquakes today using two pieces of paper.  Didn't know what she was doing at first. :P  Ah Alex, we miss you on TWC.

You are not alone, I can't watch videos, either.

Well, it's good to know I'm not alone, but the problem has been like this for over 24 hours now. For example, I can't watch the video of an IS2 Zach posted in another thread because it won't load.

I know YT is obviously not everything in life, but this problem is a little frustrating. <_< And I am seeing other people comment on videos and post them, so it may be just me or a few of us.
