Questions, Comments, Suggestions / Logo Rotation No Longer on Old "Curve" Theme?

Jesse, I know we talked about this via PM with the Halloween logo, but I didn't realize that it was affecting the entire rotation of show logos, too. On the old-curve theme (which I still use), the only logo that is appearing in the standard Weather Center one. There is no logo rotation anymore, and holiday logos do not show up either. I've tried clearing my cache/cookies, and it still doesn't work.

If this could be fixed, that would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure all of you have probably heard or seen this somewhere, but I thought I'd post it for the records. I really didn't think L.A. could ever be within twenty or thirty degrees of this jaw-dropping temperature.


Downtown Los Angeles bakes at record 113 degrees

LOS ANGELES – California's blistering fall heat wave sent temperatures to an all-time record high of 113 degrees in downtown Los Angeles on Monday, and many sought refuge at the beach.

Downtown hit 113 degrees for a few minutes at about 12:15 p.m., breaking the old all-time record of 112 degrees set on June 26, 1990, said Stuart Seto, a weather specialist at the National Weather Service office in Oxnard. Temperature records for downtown date to 1877.

Electrical demand was much higher than normal for this time of year but no problems or shortages were expected on the state grid, said Gregg Fishman, spokesman for the California Independent System Operator, which controls about 80 percent of the grid.

"It's manageable. We've got the resources available," he said.

Demand was expected to reach 46,000 megawatts, compared to 38,300 megawatts a year earlier, he said.

As Mother Nature served up California in a roasting pan, some people were able to seek relief at the beaches — though not in the hundreds of thousands who turned out over the weekend as the heat wave built.

"Because it's Monday and it's a school day, the crowd is a lot smaller, (but) it appears a lot of people aren't going to work or school," said Los Angeles County lifeguard Capt. Angus Alexander.

Angus said Monday was one of the best beach days of the year, with clear visibility all the way to Santa Catalina Island, the popular tourist destination about 20 miles off the mainland coast.

The city of Los Angeles urged people to use Parks and Recreation facilities, senior centers and libraries as cooling centers. A half-dozen senior sites were to remain open until 9 p.m., the Emergency Management Department said.

Umbrellas were the necessary accessory for many women venturing along sizzling sidewalks.

The National Weather Service said the siege of dry heat was being caused by a ridge of high pressure over the West that was keeping the Pacific Ocean's normal moist and cool influence at bay.

Firefighters were on alert for wildfires, but there was little wind amid the onslaught of dry heat.

Red Flag warnings for fire danger were posted in some areas, but mostly due to the withering effect on vegetation alone rather than the dangerous combination of low humidity and offshore winds. Air movement remained breezy at best rather than forming the gusty Santa Ana winds linked to destructive wildfires.

The early fall blast of intense heat follows an unusually cool summer that often found beaches covered in overcast and whipped by chilly winds.

"It's been a long time since we got this hot," said Seto, adding: "It's like our unexpected summer."

General Weather Chat / Poll: Spring 2010 Severe Weather Activity

I created this poll primarily to see if there was a big difference in severe weather activity this past spring for cities in the US. I know that those members here who live in Arkansas, Oklahoma, or Minnesota will probably be selecting the option "More active than usual." However, for Dallas and the DFW area, from what I can remember, we did not experience much severe weather, if any at all, this year. Normally late-April through May is the time for us to be bombarded with severe weather, and it has certainly happened in past years. Storms with strong winds, heavy rain, hail, and (though not as often) a tornado threat are common and usually happen more than once. However, this year, there wasn't ANY of that for Dallas. We only had one severe thunderstorm WARNING this year, and that turned out to be a big bust because all of the storms went around our area. So I guess some cities around the DFW area had some severe weather this year, but the DFW metroplex had a rather quiet severe weather season.

So...what has severe weather been like for your area this past spring? I know a lot of cities are still getting that severe threat through the summer, as well.

I know the video is kind of short, but I thought something this wacky was worth sharing. The ironic thing is that one "motto" in Texas is "Drive Friendly - The Texas Way." I guess this is what they mean by friendly?

In traveling to Disney World last week, I could definetely call the place a city or small town, and it looks like The Weather Channel thinks the same way. Here is the IntelliSTAR local forecast for Walt Disney World, as recorded in the hotel room at one of the resorts.

**Notes**
-Please excuse the somewhat poor picture quality and shakiness. I recorded this with the video feature on my camera, and since there was no good place to set it down for recording, I held the camera during the entire local forecast.
-Yes, I did change the audio. Originally, there was a very high-pitched sound in the background, and the narration/music could barely be heard.
-The song I used is called "Partners in Crime" featuring Jim Brickman and Dave Koz.
