Hey kids, let's recap what we learned last night:

If you're the President of the United States of America, be very very careful about what you say if you go on a late-night talk show.

So this summer, the Sci Fi channel is going to become Syfy... just why, exactly?

What the freak. First Court TV changed the name to TruTV, now Sci-FI is gonna change it's name too? That name doesn't make any sense!  Anything else I should mention? What's next?
Discovery Health will be changed to Discovery Life.
Are you sure about that? Pretty sure Discovery Health will be changed to the Oprah Network.

General Weather Chat / Stormy Monday in the Plains?
« on: March 19, 2009, 10:49:19 AM »
It's looking like a good chance of a severe weather/tornado outbreak on Monday, and I'm in the expected area!  Threat area is from parts of South Dakota to north-central Texas, including most of Nebraska and Kansas, extreme western Iowa, NW Missouri, and central Oklahoma.

Yeah, I agree, this is good news, but it may not mean much for the economy overall.  I saw on cnn money this morning that analysts are expecting another big selloff, they just don't know when.  You really can't judge the status of the huge recession by what happens over 4 days.

I have seen them forget to mention thunderstorms in our zone forecast before, either that or they expected the storms later that day to split west of us, go north and south of this 2-3 county group, and get back together to the east.  Pretty sure thunderstorm forecasting is not that precise.

$150?? We're paying about $61 after taxes and stuff for satellite and DVR, obviously no HD or special stuff.

It also was much warmer overnight than it will be tonight/tomorrow.  With temperatures like that, rain is impossible, and there would have to be a huge area of really warm air aloft for freezing rain, don't know if that is possible either.

Zone Forecast for Wednesday for Duluth, MN, something seems wrong with this.

Wednesday...Breezy. Mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of rain showers in the morning. Areas of blowing snow in the morning... Then patchy blowing snow in the afternoon. Highs 7 to 12. Temperatures falling in the afternoon. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph. Wind chill readings 10 below to 20 below zero.

Edit: Looks like they have fixed it, but here's a link to this forecast.

I like external hard drives and USB drives better than floppy disks or zip drives.

General Discussion / Re: Good Luck Getting A Job In This Economy...

So in Meteorology school, we were always told by meteorologists who have been in the biz for a long time that the field is overpopulated and we won't get jobs, just the opposite seems to be true.  Most everyone I graduated with hasn't had much trouble finding jobs, and the office I'm in now is looking to hire on more people now.

Broomfield, CO is reporting 73oF with a dewpoint of -22oF giving a relative humidity of 2%.  Wind gusts up to 31 mph, I think the red flag warning for the area is a good idea.

Happy birthday!

Last year I started my own thread wishing myself happy birthday too, but I think my bday is in my profile now, though it would be fun to search through and bump that thread from last year too.

I'm getting very restless, it's March, bring on the spring thunderstorms! Just nothing too bad or that will cause major damage/loss of life.

General Weather Chat / Re: Global Warming Over?
« on: March 04, 2009, 09:46:47 AM »
In my opinion there is no such thing as global warming.  I like to refer to it as climate change.  I believe people are jumping to conclusions too fast that peope are/were causing the warming and are/were the only cause without looking at everything on both sides of the debate.  Now if the "global warming" is over, I suppose global warming advocates are going to say their efforts to educate the public are paying off, when in reality it just may be the earth's climate cycle starting to turn directions.
