Well, college is certainly a ramp up from high school, that's for sure. I guess it's a question of time management. I'm finding out it IS true that you have two hours of homework for every hour of class.

I don't know if this was exactly the best product to issue for this time of year...actually, for any part of the year.

A big thanks to those of you who have considered working with us. For you folks who agreed to join us, welcome aboard. For you still considering, please take your time.

The Weather Center will now start regular operations today. Our goal is to provide opportunities to practice forecasting for weather enthusiasts, whether they are enrolled in a college program, or are still in middle or high school. We have several offices you can elect to join and assist with, and more may be opened as the weeks progress. Below is the list of offices we have running:
  • Hydrology and Winter Weather Office: Forecasts total rainfall and assesses the risk of flash flooding. During the fall and winter months, forecasts total snowfall and issues statements on blizzards or other winter storms.
  • Severe Weather Office: Makes daily forecasts for severe weather potential, assigns risk areas as necessary, and may issue "watches" in close coordination with the National Weather Service.
  • Tropical Weather Office: Tracks tropical systems, issues advisories and discussions as necessary.

We also have four local offices operating, based out of Chattanooga, TN; Charleston, SC; Grand Forks, ND; and Cleveland, OH. You are more than welcome to open a local office with us. Just let us know, and we'll have your page set up within the hour.

Here is our website link. Feel free to check us out!

It's forecasts like mine that make me wish the Pot Belly Stove will reopen soon  :bleh:. Monday, we hit a high of 74 and reach a low of 49. Tuesday, our high reaches only 59, and our low sits at 37. Things should only get colder from there.

Double post, and I need some input on this. We're remodeling our website, and we have several new features. We're opening several specialty offices for the tropics, severe weather, and hydrology. In addition, we're going to form several local offices. We already have three: Charleston, Grand Forks, and Chattanooga.

Here's the thing: we don't want to be the only ones operating the site. We'd like to have other people interested in weather helping operating the specialty offices. If someone wants to open a local office, they can do so at no cost. So, please reply to this if you're interested. The site is still in the works, but we'll release it by mid-September.

Yikes. Still a little too far out, but it looks like the United States will want to watch this one. Not sure if it's gonna be a Gulf or East Coast threat, though.

So I started my flying lessons today. The wind wasn't that great, which made for a rather bumpy ride, but otherwise it was fun. A few basic turns, and then we did a landing where we bounced down the runway for a good distance. Oh, did I mention I got sick mid-flight? I'm fine now, but for a little bit, a little white bag was my best friend.

SKYWARN does use twitter. You could upload your video to youtube, and then make a storm report via Twitter to your office, linking to the video.

Lee is now a depression. Heavy rainfall is still anticipated for much of the Southeast over the next few days.
\
EDIT: Lee is no longer being followed by the National Hurricane Center.

New England looks to just get some big waves and see some rip currents from Katia. She's gonna turn well away from the region, looking at models.

I find it sad and disturbing that while much of the Southeast is under a Flood Watch or Flood Warning of some sort, just a short hop west, you run into Texas coated in Red Flag warnings.

I'm starting to get a tiny bit iffy on landfall potential with Katia. Looking at the 12Z model guidance run, it's looking like most models turn her north and eventually northeast well offshore of the United States.
