Yeah, I stopped watching TWC months ago, but I'm still here because of the friends I've made here. There's not really anything that's gonna pull me away from the forums. I strongly recommend you re-consider before you decide to leave us. If so, we wish you the best.

Not completely sure here in Grand Forks, but probably the same time as Montana. :P I'm thinking near the end of the first week of October. I'll be cocky and put a date on it: Friday, October 6th.

Thank god I'm not a meteorology major. TWC would be the last place I would use to check my local weather info..

I'm confused. What does a meteorology major have to do with this?
cuz that's where I actually had a passion of the weather, from observing and learning the weather information that was displayed on my XL and IS over the years. Also, if I was majoring in meteorology I would be inclined to check the LOT8s more often for weather forecasts and observations.

That's interesting. I'm a meteorology major, but just so you know, under no circumstances do we use information from TWC and Local on the 8s. National Weather Service products and official models are all that are used.

According to a recent report from less than a week ago, polar ice levels are at near record-low levels, comparing only to 2007, which had even less ice.

Al Gore drives me crazy as well, but regarding the ice caps, they are getting smaller and smaller.

She's finally a hurricane. Hurricane warnings out for Bermuda. Otherwise, nothing else really interesting to note.

Wow. It's so unusual to see a cold air mass affect temperatures this much for this time of year. But keep in mind, 19 for International Falls is nothing. You can really start being amazed when they start hitting -30s and -20s for lows for days or even a week at a time.

I agree with Kev on this one. Besides, as sad as it is, petitions are not nearly as effective as you think they are. Just because all of us may have signed it and passed it on to the desk of the producers and TWC doesn't mean they are obligated to make that change. Let's be honest: we're an extremely small percentage of the viewers of TWC at any given day. Just 50 or 60 signatures won't do anything. To make them even consider, you need signatures probably in the thousands.

This is one of those situations where you calm down and you deal with change. If you don't like it, if you absolutely can't stand it, then don't watch. It's that simple. I made that decision months ago.

Another interesting thing from the local office: radar image caught birds taking off at sunrise. The loops on the west side are the birds being detected by radar. Pretty fascinating image.

Bumping. Scariest moment was tracking the April 27th tornado outbreak from Chattanooga. Ringgold, GA, got slammed just south of us by an EF-4 tornado. The town was levelled and 20 people died. The damage was so severe our school's propositions to assist in the city clean-up was repeatedly refused.

I know with that pattern last year, Grand Forks got slammed with significant snowfall and cold temperatures before December even rolled around. I distinctly remember a forecast in mid-November for the region where highs were projected to be -4°.

But I won't be in the nation the later part of winter. Anyone know what effects La Nina has on Southern Hemisphere weather?

And I'll beat that. :P

Currently: 66°F with Variable Cloud Cover
High: 69°
Low: 46°

The winds are pretty bad today, taking the feels like temperature down to 58. Right now, winds are out of the NW at 25 mph, gusting to 32.

Given that NOAA sees increasing signs of a returning La Nina, I wouldn't be surprised if we at least make it to "T" this year. Whether we go Greek this year...well, we'll just have to wait and see.

General Discussion / Re: 9/11/01: It's been 10 years...

September 11th, 2001. I was in the third grade at the time, classes were starting about 8. At around 9, the teachers got called out of their classrooms over the intercom, although no one was told why. After about 10 minutes, the teachers came back, obviously disturbed. I had no idea what was happening, nor did anyone else around me. Classes were let out at noon, and I was picked up by my Mom, who was crying.

I found out later why she was upset: my grandparents on my father's side had plans to visit New York that day, and we thought they might have been on those planes that hit the Twin Towers. We got a call from them later that day, saying they had cancelled their plans.

My roommate here said a close friend of his father was supposed to board Flight 11, but after his meeting in Los Angeles was cancelled, he never went to Boston to catch the flight.

God bless the victims and heroes of 9/11. This is an event that, intended to split the world apart, united the globe.
