The following is my forecast for temperature and precipitation deviations this winter, with a little help from the Climate Prediction Center.

I am not surprised at all that your butt does not speak the truth, and I am not wondering if it can tell me who stole my cookies yesterday.  :whistling:

I remember back in January 2008 being under a Snow Advisory (first time I had ever heard of this) and being somewhat confused what the criteria was. Was it similar to a Winter Weather Advisory for us? I assumed it was because we only picked up like 1-2 inches from that storm at that time.

Most likely because of a small snowfall total. Before the switch of advisories, there was a Heavy Snow Advisory, which was likely for larger snow accumulations.

Today, a Winter Weather Advisory just means winter weather conditions, whether it be icing, snow, or freezing rain, meet advisory criteria, but not warning criteria. So, you could have had an Icing Warning back then and today's Winter Weather Advisory could mean the same thing. They merged a ton of things into that single product.  :bleh:

I agree with NWS reasoning here. Having all those different advisories can cause a forecasting nightmare at times, and it could and did cause serious warning relay problems with emergency officials and the media. Having the wording "Winter Storm Warning" and then specifically stating the hazard in question is much easier for NWS employees and local media alike.

I know it's North Dakota, and you'll have a hard time believing this, but...

Record Report: September 28th, 2011
Today, the Grand Forks International Airport recorded a high temperature of 86 degrees. This breaks the old record of 84 degrees, set in 1995.

She's back...

Looks like NHC is now pushing for her to become a hurricane. Ophelia, with all due respect, you are really becoming a royal pain in the arse.

NHC gives 60% chance of redevelopment. Looks like Ophelia might be making a comeback.

Oi. Aside from that, seeing the original post, I would wanna know who'd be pissed with Paris to hijack a plane heading that way.

You'd be amazed how many terrorists organizations will go after France. Google a story about a hijacking in Algeria that led to a police raid on the plane that killed the terrorists.

Changing to a much more serious note: we'll have to wait and see, but around Twitter there are unconfirmed reports that an Air France airplane has been hijacked on a flight from Hong Kong to Paris. It's not known if it's a radio error, but we're waiting for an official word.

EDIT: This is a perfect example of over-reaction to a Twitter post.  :hammer: Reports confirmed this was NOT a hijacking, but a regular old squawk code.

Holy cow, Austin, it sounds like your teachers really just hand out demerits like candy. We got demerits if we were tardy or missed class.

I don't know about you folks in college, but we don't have demerits here. All you really have to do is something really, really stupid to get thrown out of the school. We've already had at least 10 or 20 people removed from our dorm because of excessive drinking.

It was kinda simple at my school. Ten demerits, you had morning laps. Had to get up at 6 to do them. At 60 demerits, you had an in-school suspension. 100 demerits, and you were suspended indefinitely.

Something you get when you get in trouble. If you get enough of them, you're gone from the school or get some severe punishment.

If I thought the Farmer's Almanac's predictions had some legitimacy for this winter, I don't anymore. I was listening to the radio this morning and found out FA was predicting 200 inches of snow for the Red River Valley. Complete and utter bogus, and if that DID happen, Fargo would turn into Atlantis.
