Not TWC related, but I'm finally done with finals week and I decided to write a little piece describing how things went. It's cheesy, and I never intended for it to be stellar, but I just had it sitting in my mind. Enjoy!

Quote
God, if you hear me
Have mercy on my soul
Finals week has finally come
And will likely take a toll

On Tuesday it’s Aviation,
Which should be easy for some,
Especially that kid up front
Who smacks loudly on his gum.

Thursday brings Ground School,
Which takes place at night.
I wouldn’t mind it so much
If there was not a risk of frostbite.

The weekend should be a study period,
But I decide to procrastinate,
I laugh it off but wonder
If that has sealed my ugly fate.

Monday brings Meteorology,
A class I take in stride.
The exam goes well, I start to think
Maybe fate is on my side.

But a nasty surprise for Tuesday
My Calc exam looms,
I sit twirling my pencil,
Numbers counting down my doom.

This week has been so hectic
And it’s made for quite a show.
But that’s it, now I’m done.
So I say “Dixieland HO!”

It's not easy. I get annoyed with some people who say it's simply looking at a model. Well, no, not really, because models aren't 100% accurate. You actually have to know the various elements of meteorology and determine whether the models actually make a lick of sense...in addition to looking at elements that models overlook (fresh snow cover, for example).

Just finished my last flight of the semester: a cross country from Grand Forks to Park Rapids to Bemidji and back into North Dakota. It was kinda weird to take off from Grand Forks, where there was no snow and the temp was around 40 (HOT by our standards at this time of year), to going to Minnesota and seeing snow on the ground, and temps barely at 30.

The words "retiring" and "threw in the towel" do not mix well together. Either way, one less nuisance for the National Weather Service to deal with. Way to go Google.

Just a note that all work on the IS2 has been stopped due to finals on my end. However, despite this, I still expect an on-time completion date before December 25th.

Winter Weather / Re: Winter Storm Thread: 2011-12 Season

Looks like a Nor'Easter will begin to affect New England over the next 48 hours as a Hatteras Low begins its track along the Eastern Seaboard. Doesn't look like anything too major, but a few areas could get 8 inches. Coastal regions look to see just rain and possibly a light mix.

General Weather Chat / 25 Coldest Cities in the United States
« on: December 05, 2011, 09:48:57 PM »
A new article out today, and since winter is starting to make itself known, it seems more than appropriate to introduce this article. Presenting the 25 coldest cities across the entirety of the United States, according to The Daily Beast. Surprisingly, Alaska only took two spots, but one was the #1 spot. Otherwise, the Dakotas, Iowa, Montana, Wyoming, and portions of Vermont seized the majority of the spots.

It's 8 degrees outside, people are hanging up decorations in their rooms, and I've got Frank Sinatra singing his face off about snow. I actually feel at home right now.

I've generally stopped using weather.com for forecasts. I'd look more at what NWS has to say for your area, which I see has a slight chance of rain and snow. Another possibility is that weather.com hasn't quite updated it's 36 hour forecast.
