Well the NWS' forecast was way off. I knew before the storm that they should have issued a high wind warning as for we had sustained winds of 45mph with gusts to 59mph. Certainly enough to call on the high wind warning.
I was looking at some of the reports up there. What station was that?

I recall reading the Hazardous Weather Outlook out of New York that said gusts between 55 to 65 mph, although a low probability, were possible for much of Long Island. That should have been enough in addition to the wind advisory.

We're supposed to get some winds too, although not the caliber you're describing there. I miss being up in North Dakota, though. It's too calm and balmy down here. Give me 20s, give me winds gusting to 40 knots, and give me wind chills down to -20, and I'm happy.

Although North Dakota missed out on it this Christmas, I'd love to see bitterly cold temps, preferably less than -10, and snow or blowing snow.

Merry Christmas, folks! Hardly anything under the tree this year. Dad got himself a motorcycle, so we got him some new gloves and a helmet. I'm not a fan of motorcycles, but I'll keep my mouth shut about it to him.

As for me, not expecting anything. My main present this year is a 12-week vacation in New Zealand and Australia starting in early February. Apparently it's already planned out and what not, so I'm excited for it.

It is kinda weird for it to be near the end of December and tolerate wearing shorts. We hit 80 here in South Carolina.

About a half hour ago, Paul had some trouble pulling up an interstate forecast, with the computer spitting out a few errors back at him.

Hey folks. Just wanted to show off a small vid that we recorded just a few minutes ago with test material for our stream. Complete with a fully functional lower-thirds bar. A few minor city display errors near the end, along with a small bit of lag between cities, but otherwise it looks good. Market data is reserved for slow days. What do you guys think?

Based loosely off of Fox Business, a lower thirds concept I created for our website's stream, airing sometime tomorrow evening! Market data is inaccurate.

Grand Forks has been asking where the heck winter has gone. We've been above 30 degrees quite a few times this year, well above average, and there has been only one snowfall, and less than one inch at that. We have a high of 47 forecast for tomorrow, which could easily break some records.

The error would be the clear conditions amidst all the clouds?
That and the sudden temperature increase and the sudden increase in pressure. A glitch indeed.

Likely the ASOS or AWOS station had a malfunctioning thermometer and cloud base detector at that time. Hopefully the station got repaired.

Congrats on the college entrance!

I just received word that I have been accepted as a weather intern for one of my local television stations this summer!  So excited, I can't even handle it.  Haha.

Speaking of that, I just found out a couple weeks ago that my meteorology program at my school does not offer forecasting courses.  Some of the alum have said they didn't learn until their first job or at their internship; I'm definitely going to have my eyes and ears open with this internship.  I mean, really?  You're not going to teach future meteorologists how to forecast?  Is this normal?  Do you just take what you've learned about meteorology and the atmosphere and then apply it to the forecasting models?

Well, do they call the program Meteorology or Broadcast Meteorology? If it's just meteorology, I'm surprised to hear that they don't offer a forecasting course. My school offers it; in fact, if you want an internship with any forecasting group in town (the NWS or a company called Meridian are popular here), you have to pass that class in order to be eligible.

If it's Broadcast Meteorology, then I'm not sure if the same criteria applies. I'm not exactly knowledgable in that, though.
