Yes, since we did sign Georgia over to them, although Texas deserved it more.

Speaking of which, why don't you mess with Texas?

If you're really good, not a single one.

If I say 200, what do you not say?

I voted for Cantore, Forbes, Goodloe, Walker, and Knabb. Jim for obvious reasons, Forbes and Knabb just do to their expertise, and their sense of humor (Knabb dancing on a desk, anyone? :P ) I wish Goodloe was on more, and I personally enjoy watching Nick Walker on the afternoons.

And I wish we did past OCMs, but I have to say I really liked Marshall Seese. It's a shame he left TWC, but I regard him as the "TWC Morning King."

General Discussion / Storm Chasers Cancelled By Discovery
« on: January 26, 2012, 08:12:40 PM »
A sad day for severe weather enthusiasts, but Tim Samaras of Twistex confirmed a few days ago that Discovery will not being doing another season of Storm Chasers. From Tim Samaras' Facebook page:

Being with Discovery has been an incredible experience. Did you know that Discovery is one of the top 100 places to work? My highlight of being with Discovery is when they asked me to volunteer for 'Habitat for Humanity' back in the Fall. There is incredible talent and incredible employees that I've met during my 'tenure' at Discovery. This is a company that really cares for it's employees.

Alas, they have to answer to their shareholders regarding the ratings for their shows they produce. They have to make tough decisions on what shows stay, and shows that have to go. Storm Chasers was a VERY expensive show to put on, and quite frankly, the overall population didn't grasp 'Storm Chasers' as a top show anymore-to be displaced by 'Gold Rush', 'Sons of Guns', and others. As 'weather weenies' we think this is an injustice, but in reality--it's not a big deal to the general population--most folks don't really care about tornadoes unless it affects them directly. Ratings suggested that the midwest absolutely loved the show, but both coasts(population that drives ratings) really didn't care.

There was a production change right in the middle of the show sometime in early May that had affected the show big-time. Personally, I feel the fate of the show was decided last May. There was no advertising, no promotion(Reed didn't go on his promotional road trip), and we wound up with the Sunday slot--competing against Sunday Night Football. We were on Wednesday night a year ago. Why?

I won't comment on the editorial content, as nearly 100% of the viewers have commented accurately. Far too many 'creative liberties' were allowed.

I will comment that TWISTEX--despite the commentator's narration on the final episode--was NOT a failure.

One will never know where myself, Reed and Sean will appear once again. I will say that it was an absolute pleasure to be featured in the show along with such great talent.

Thank you Discovery for three incredible years.

Agree with Pop Light Brown. We need to do the research for alternative energy. Sure, we found oil in North Dakota, and that's gonna last us for a little bit, but for how long? We need to find a viable source soon and find it right here in our country. And I'd check to see how much of your tax money is going to go to this research. There is a website out there that shows you, as Obama promised he would create last year.

I thought the reduction of government involvement was a Republican idea? Or did the party suddenly switch views? Sure, I'm doubtful that he's gonna pull it off, but he DID have ideas to do so.

The "power" was more of a threat in the case that Congress still decides to be uncooperative and prevent anything from getting done this year. "Inches away from being a dictator?" Yes, we are so close to being just like North Korea.  <_<

I agreed with most of what Obama said. He did a good job of scolding Congress (both the Dems and Republicans looked like they were sitting on a tack when he said that). I support his high school idea, and I agree that we need to do anything we can to build our economy right here on home ground.

He also had a few good traditionally Republican ideas as well, like cutting back on government regulation (although he kinda blew it by also wanting a few new government agencies for investigating financial and trade fraud).

I didn't watch the Indiana Governor's response for the GOP, or Herman Cain's response for the Tea Party, so I'll have to watch those later.

Yikes, I see the current conditions on my profile is reporting "Unknown Precipitation" for Norman!  That's a little disturbing...I guess I'm not going outside then. :P

It's raining UFOs! No, not really. :P 52 and fair. Myrtle Beach recorded a high of 79 this afternoon.

Wow, that was an...interesting proposal. From CNN:

President Obama: "I call on every state to require that all students stay in high school until they graduate or turn 18."

*bump* Don't want to make another thread, so I'll just post here. For those of you interested, President Obama will be giving his potentially last State of the Union address tonight. Although I'm sure he will put forth some valid plans, I'd watch to see how much he tries and campaigns for his re-election. The speech begins at 9 PM ET.
