* TORNADO WARNING FOR...
  NORTHWESTERN POLK COUNTY IN NORTHWEST MINNESOTA...
  EASTERN GRAND FORKS COUNTY IN NORTHEAST NORTH DAKOTA...

* UNTIL 500 PM CDT

* AT 414 PM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A
  SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO. THE STORM WAS
  LOCATED 5 MILES NORTHWEST OF GRAND FORKS...MOVING TO THE NORTHEAST
  AT 15 MPH.

* THE TORNADIC STORM WILL BE NEAR...
  EAST GRAND FORKS AROUND 430 PM CDT.
  MANVEL AROUND 440 PM CDT.

FOR MOTORISTS ON INTERSTATE 29...THE TORNADIC STORM WILL BE
BETWEEN...MILE MARKER 142 AROUND 425 PM CDT...AND MILE MARKER 148

Congrats!! I've been thinking about getting mine as well. Do you recommend it?

Absolutely! It is extremely rewarding to be able to fly an airplane (granted you are certified for class and type) whenever you want, just for the heck of it. Keep in mind it will be expensive, although not expensive as my flight training (my pay is 130 an hour once the engine starts). I won't give an exact number, but the cost to get this license was around 14K-16K.

I was reading AFDs and came across a few that made me laugh. This one from March 18 out of Nashville, though, was kinda disturbing. Wonder what kind of bad day at the office this fella had.

VERY BODACIOUS. FOR THE MIT GRADS...THATS DEEP...ENERGETIC AND
NEGATIVELY TILTED. MOTHER NATURE PULLS MOST OF THE TROUGH NEWD
THROUGH THE NRN ROCKIES/PLAINS. BUT WAIT...SHE FORGOT SOMETHING
AND BY WED AM IT'S SITTING OVER THE SRN PLAINS. IT'S LIKE SHE
DIDN'T BRING HER DOGGIE BAG AND JUST DECIDED TO DISCRETELY WALK
AWAY.

SO THE PILE OF...ENERGY...SITTING OVER THE SRN PLAINS EVENTUALLY
PUSHES ENEWD INTO THE OH/TN VALLEYS ON THU NGT AND FRI. ON THU
MORNING THE GFS AND ECM ARE IN DECENT AGREEMENT ON THE POSITION OF
THIS CUTOFF LOW. BUT THAT DOESN'T LAST LONG. THE ECM INVENTS A
VIGOROUS WAVE IN THE NRN STREAM TO DROP THROUGH THE GREAT LAKES
AND PUSH THE LOW TOWARD THE SE COAST BY SAT EVE. WHILE THE GFS...
SORT KICKS THE CAN...ERR LOW...DOWN THE ROAD. LAGGING BEHIND ABOUT
24 HRS. MY CRYSTAL BALL IS IN THE SHOP FOR REPAIRS...BUT RECENT STUDIES
HAVE SHOWN THAT THE ECM VERIFIES A BIT BETTER...SO I HAVE SHOWN A
DECREASING POP ON SAT AND DRY ON SUN. MORE GOOD NEWS...TEMPS FOR
FRI-SUN WILL DROP TO ONLY 5-8 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL INSTEAD OF THE
CURRENT 15-20 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. WELL THAT'S ALL THE METEOROLOGY

Congratulations, Mac!  That's quite an achievement.

Yay congrats! Flying is a rewarding career that I myself have once considered (but decided it was not for me). Do you plan to work for an airline, Mac?

He was only pursuing a private pilot's license, so I don't think he can work at an airline as it would require a commercial pilot's license unless he's wanting to venture further than I think he does.

Thanks for all the congrats, guys! I do not plan to go work for an airline, as my main job passion is still with meteorology, but I do plan to venture into UAS applications (unmanned aircraft, like the drones across the news). To do that, though, I actually have to be instrument, commerically, and multi-engine certified. So technically, I am going through all the courses a commerical airline pilot would have to take.

Well, tomorrow is a very important part of my flight course, because if I pass this flight examination tomorrow, I will likely have my Private Pilot's license in my hand in about a week or so.  Just trying not to let my nerves get to me.
