Adios drought. Rainfall totals in Grand Forks exceeded 2 inches in some areas just from this one storm, forcing a Flood Advisory for the county. With 2 inches of rain, the city is now above average for precipitation for the month of July, and only around .2 to .3 inches down from the annual average.  :thrilled:

71 degrees with a Thunderstorm/Heavy Rain/Fog/Mist. Visibility is god awful in this rain; latest observation was 3/4 mile. Rainfall in the last hour...third of an inch.

EDIT: Unconfirmed reading of 1.48 inches of rain in the last hour at the airport. That will put a nice dent in our rainfall deficit here.

General Discussion / The Olympics Hit London - 2012
« on: July 24, 2012, 03:30:48 PM »
I almost considered putting this in the Sports Thread, but the Olympics are special enough that I feel it deserves its own thread. I will personally be watching the Olympics non-stop the next several days, and this thread is for those of you who wish to discuss anything about it - the opening ceremonies, memorable events, etc.

302 events, 144 countries. And I've only got one thing to say: GO TEAM USA!

Yeah, GFS likes to start daydreaming like crazy after about a week out. In the short range, though - 40% chance of development in the open Atlantic.

1. A NON-TROPICAL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM LOCATED ABOUT 625 MILES
EAST-NORTHEAST OF BERMUDA IS SHOWING SIGNS OF ORGANIZATION AS IT
GRADUALLY LOSES FRONTAL CHARACTERISTICS. THIS DISTURBANCE IS MOVING
NORTHEASTWARD AT ABOUT 10 TO 15 MPH AND IS LIKELY PRODUCING WINDS
AT OR NEAR GALE FORCE.  THIS SYSTEM HAS A MEDIUM CHANCE...40
PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE BEFORE IT REACHES COOLER
WATERS ON WEDNESDAY.  FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION...PLEASE SEE HIGH
SEAS FORECASTS ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.

Holy Cow...... Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the ONLY time I've ever seen the SPC go for an enhanced risk of severe storms on the D8 timeframe....... If this holds true, this could be a very deadly situation within a week or so........

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/exper/day4-8/

Not necessarily. My area was in an enhanced risk from Day 7 and when we got to Day 1, the probabilities were 15%. The only reason those areas are marked right now is because models are agreeing rather well with the scenario. It doesn't necessarily mean the situation will be deadly. Something to watch? Yes. Something to be concerned about? Right now...no.

I don't think the moderators emphasized enough of the fact that they don't want to see any complaining about TWC.

Guys, I think we go through this too much.  There have always been just some days when not a lot of people are online, or when there is simply not much to say.  It's usually never permanent.  I would only worry about the decline in activity if such quietness lasted for over a week.
Really?! I have never seen it this quiet ever in my whole time of being a TWC Today member!

This excludes the 5-day forum outage that happened in December 2009.

There was a stretch last year that lasted three days if I remember somewhat, but yeah, it has been quiet.
