REGION BEGINNING TO COME UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A CUT-OFF LOW CENTERED OVER THE CENTRAL COAST OF CALIFORNIA. NAM AND UKMET ARE NOT HANDLING THIS SYSTEM WELL...KEEPING A SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVING AROUND THE BOTTOM OF THE LOW WEAK. GFS AND ECMWF CONTINUE TO HANDLE THE SYSTEM WELL SO WILL RELY MORE HEAVILY ON THESE. THUS...USED ECMWF AND SOME GFS H7/H8 TEMP GUIDANCE AND PRECIP.

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! ¿Alguien tiene algún plan para hoy?  :sing:

(Happy Cinco de Mayo! Does anybody have any plans for today?)

^^^Note that I do not know any Spanish and that I used Google Translate to help me translate my English to Spanish  :P

Lamentablemente, no. Domingos suelen ser sedados para mí, y el Cinco de Mayo es todo lo contrario.

(Sadly, no. Sundays are usually sedated for me, and Cinco de Mayo is anything but.)

What is that, exactly?  One wonders if that would be considered a believable forecast were it posted in the weather forecasting contest we have coming up.  ;)

Cold front, and a fairly strong one at that.

Craig, if you don't mind me asking, where do you get that tabulated data? I've been trying to find (or make) something like that for quite a while.

61° Few Clouds.

After a long, long below average temperature spell, Grand Forks has finally broken 50 for the first time in 2013. The previous record for the latest 50 day was April 21st, 1904.

Flood Warning in effect for the Red River at Grand Forks. Peak crest above 45 feet is expected.

Flood Watch in effect.

I'm in. If you give me a town near a mountain, though, I am in trouble.

I'm in. Sounds interesting. Should choose a city that's difficult to forecast, ones with complex microclimates. Ex. A coastal city (temps could possibly be effected by sea breeze)

I agree, as long as we have a balance of fairly easy regions to forecast for as well to accommodate first-timers.

Hard to say. Definitely not this year - it's been painfully quiet. Still no High Risk day and it is almost May.

Getting hired and fired at the same day, not as uncommon as you think! I feel bad for the guy, he became way too nervous on his first day on the job as you can and slipped the wrong words. While unprofessional, I think they should have not fired him and at least given him a warning. In ND, maybe they handle things differently but I don't see the big deal. Sue Simmons has cursed/gotten drunk on air more times than I can count in the US's largest TV market and yet she kept working before being let go last year.  Opinions? WARNING: FOUL LANGUAGE IN THE BEGINNING
KFYR News Anchor A.J. Clemente Drops F-bomb in TV Gaffe

He clearly demonstrated his lack of ability. Yes, he cursed. A lot of anchors do that. He also looked at the wrong camera and just made for a generally painful broadcast. No news agency is going to keep a guy who screws up as badly, and as long, as he did in one show. I agree with the network on this one. It's not a North Dakota thing - trust me, "North Dakota Nice" is a real thing here.

Best news I've heard all year. Our latest forecasts puts our high in Grand Forks at a resounding 62 by next Sunday, which is average for this time of year. The downside is that the rapid thaw will also allow for the Red River to start flooding like crazy. Fargo is going to be in for a rough year due to flooding. Luckily, Grand Forks was smart and built a wall.   :rofl2:

Not a single tornado reported. What a bust.  :itsok:

Mac, I don't know if this is true.  According to these storm reports, five tornadoes were reported on Wednesday, but they were very short.  These occurred in Oklahoma/north Texas.  As reports still come in, it is possible that these are incorrect if you have heard or seen otherwise.

https://nwschat.weather.gov/lsr/#OUN/201304171700/201304181200/0101

I retract my statement. There were 10 tornado reports now on the report page. When I checked when I posted, there were 0. Thanks for the correction, Andy.

The uncensored pictures I am seeing are rendering me speechless. 3 dead, over 140 injured, and still no one in custody.

A person's home should be his castle, but it shouldn't have to be his fortress. It's the same with our country.  :(
