2010 was a pretty nice year for me; there wasn't much to bring it down. 2011 should have some exciting things in store. Speaking of which, just two days away, what is your New Year's resolution?

Mine is to get outside more.

Very well done! What software do you use to make these images?

Now it's not just Accuweather. I heard a couple of OCMs on Day Planner this morning saying that 50% of the nation might see snow tomorrow!

Hey-hey, thanks. Here is another pic, this time of the local forecast. No, there is no movie in the box, that's just an image. I haven't been able to find video clips anywhere that don't cost money.

I found these sentences embedded in some flood statements from a few weeks back.

... INCLUDING RESCUE PERSONNEL WHO HAVE TO COME AND GET YOU OFF YOUR CAR HOOD. PLUS... YOU END UP ON TELEVISION THIS WAY. ...

DRIVING INTO FLOODED ROADS IS A GOOD WAY TO DIE. BETTER TO BE LATE THAN END UP ON THE NEWS.

As far as I know, Morristown is the only office that has written advisories with sentences like this. I like the unique way of portraying the danger.

Well, school has been cancelled over here thanks to an inch and a half of snow. The down side is, this eliminates any chance of a review day for exams, which start tomorrow. Translation: we jump straight into exams with ZERO in-class study time. Glorious.

My apologies for being gone so long. Here is an attached screenshot of a new emulator project, imitating the Intellistar 2. I've changed the "Radar Satellite" to "Regional Doppler." Why? Because I felt like, and The Weather Channel doesn't supply the maps I need.

A few notes:

- This was made entirely in Powerpoint. Everything you see here can be done in the 2007 version.
- The title bars belong to wxgatlin.
- All icons belong to Martin and The Weather Channel.

Video to follow.

I am happy to say that, due to something called "automatic admission," I have been unofficially accepted into the University of North Dakota. I'm expecting to get the official letter soon.

EDIT: Just looked at a forecast for Grand Forks. High of -2 on Sunday!

I'm trying to somehow combine a Master's in Meteorology with a Master's in Flight Training or Master's in Unmanned Aircraft Systems. Maybe we can fly those drones the military uses into hurricanes, and significantly reduce the risk of loss of life.

Career Goal: Pilot or Convective/Mesoscale Forecaster at Storm Prediction Center.

General Weather Chat / Possible Major Storm Tuesday?
« on: December 02, 2010, 09:19:03 PM »
I've been flipping through forecast models made by computers at the University Corporation of Atmospheric Research, and came across these three rather ominous forecasts.

This first image is 84 hours out. Notice the rather strong low in the Atlantic.
http://www.ral.ucar.edu/weather/model/gfs084hr_sfc_mslp.gif

The second image goes to 96-hours, where pressure is predicted to plunge to 968. Not exactly "explosive deepening," but certainly a rapid fall.
http://www.ral.ucar.edu/weather/model/gfs096hr_sfc_mslp.gif

The third image shows the low impacting New England by Tuesday.
http://www.ral.ucar.edu/weather/model/gfs108hr_sfc_mslp.gif

Of course, this could be completely bogus, seeing how far out these models go, but I think you folks in New England will see some major snowfall early next week.

What do you guys think?

Not so sure about this prediction. Looking at data from the National Centers of Environmental Prediction, it doesn't look like 50% of the nation is going to see snow within 30 days. But, maybe I interpreted this wrong.
