I hope they improve this feature nevertheless. I see many flaws. I like it that such an application was developed though. If I change the channel right after the local kicks in, it shows the satellite lf instead.
I tried the same thing but it came on.

One other quick point... Those DTV boxes would NOT have the power to render any transitions let alone a full 720 res. video for a transition... Im sure the boxes are already choking to pull this off as it is..
Yeah.. I would guess that they are on their last limb doing this whole thing as is.

The LDL remains off during LF's because of appearance. It wouldn't look right jumping from the local boxes to the national feed with the LDL suddenly on screen.

About Dish's LDL... IIRC both DirecTV and Dish are controlled via the same config file (seprate systems, but similar configuration) so when TWC removed the LDL from showing during the LF's for DirecTV, it problaly got applied to Dish's LDL as well.
I think Dish's still works.
(also Kyle, if you stop by the IRC again, just highlight me because i'm there :D)

Also for the people wanting some sort of transition, I really think it's not possible. The SD boxes are very low powered boxes and probably can only handle whats being thrown at it right now. But, now that I think about it... they could maybe make the transitions a "video" type thing, but I don't know. A transition made by the box I think its pretty impossible due to the underpowerful boxes, maybe the HD ones, but not SD.

I think they did disable the LDL during the forecast because of the new feature. And I think the LF ends early because they want you to see the animated radars.

Congratulations, TWC, for executing something BRILLIANTLY.

Congratulations, DirecTv, for agreeing to this.
Yep! I actually really like it. One thing I would like changed though, is that they maybe put the name of the city for your zip code because "For ZIP 98001" looks kinda weird. But other than that, I really like it. Finally DirecTV has a "Local on the 8s".

232
Well, I was TOTALLY wrong of the features on the new Local On the 8s... For one, it activates on its own, and well, it works!

Heres a video of it:

233
Yeah.. and I just did nothing on the LF that just aired... so.. I don't know.

234
well, go get your local weather now, dammit. <_<
:P
It doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary, and frankly if this is all they did, I'll be pretty upset.

235
Well that was quick.. its 12:13 and I see this:

Wow, it does sound a lot different in stereo. :D

239
Wow all that excitement for nothing. <_<
Not really. It's still something that we've never had on DTV, and I like the way it looks :D

Would it ever be possible to show local forecasts using the same way satellite companies present local channels?
Well, of course it could. Would they want to do this? No. That's a lot of precious space that could be taken up by other channels. Could they do something on a regional basis? Absolutely. I don't know if they would want to, though. That would be a great decision to make it a bit more local, but It will probably never, ever, happen.
