Yep, we have the xfinity commercials running here too. The Seattle metro area system is very well built out and as I've said before, all of expanded basic is digital, so this helps out our HD count of a tick above 100 and our 50 mbps soon to be 100 internet. I really do like it and it's nice to see Comcast finally caring about the customer a bit and building out services without waiting for competition like some others like Time Warner Cable.

Last hour, I tried hooking my TV's (not TV tuner) SD cable box to my TV tuner (which is an HD TV tuner), I got a scrambled video picture... but great sound.

Thats weird.. you're using an SD box and it can tune to the HD channel? Usually on the boxes it just does audio only and doesn't try to decode the video. The scrambled video I suspect is the box trying to decode it but the processor in the box just can't keep up so it keeps dropping.

If there was a way to deliver digital signals through cable lines instead of using cable boxes, I'd be a lot more happy.

There is: ClearQAM.

ClearQAM is an awesome thing in the digital world but it unfortunately its only useful for limited basic channels because of the content providers not liking a pure digital form of their station being available. (even though it's only SD)

Honestly, this whole digital migration is pointless. I don't care about this "bandwidth" crap. Analog cable is cheaper, much easier to set up, and less cluttered.

It's not very pointless seeing that a lot of people these days want more HD channels, and faster internet. Getting rid of all of these Analog hogs is a very, very great idea. I've been waiting for it to happen for a while when the started the digital simulcast of channels in '05.

Also, yeah, they did the "switchover" of Analog channels to Digital last year. After that we got DOCSIS 3.0 and like 30-40 more HD channels. But, TWC is still in Analog here because it is in the Limited Basic package and those channels will still be in Analog for a bit longer. This is good for me though because then I still can use QAM to record!

In mine, I don't remember exactly it is but, you can zoom in and out in the TV Settings area. That's how I've solved that before.

Star software enhancements happen all the time.  Since I am not on the engineering side of the business, I do not know exactly what they are or when they occur.  Sometimes these changes are visible to the consumer, however often they are not.  We anticipate phasing out the older model Stars (XLs and 4000s) over the next couple of years due to their age, reliability issues and the high cost or maintenance.  More importantly however, contrary to your feelings about the XL, most people would prefer the better graphics, radar and detail that the IStar offers.

Maybe this has something to do with analog cable.    The FCC will be discontinuing analog cable in 2012. I don't think neither the Juniors, 4000s, or XLs are able transmit a output signal through the digital cable signal. The last major upgrade for the 4000s and Juniors came around 2002 when TWC discontinued using NWS forecasts. Maybe this may be the last version of both the 4000s and Juniors (possibly the XL too).

All of the encoding to digital gets done by a device separate from the STAR itself, so they would be just fine.
