Programming and Graphics / Re: New HD LDL?
« on: June 08, 2010, 04:02:10 PM »
The "Dead Space" on the Left side of the LDL is for as Tyler pointed out Ad space

The only Ad TWC seems to be testing is the "Wake Up With AL."

Which I've yet to see used on that HD LDL.

As an aside, anyone's Intellistar still out?  The one here in New Orleans (don't have the ID) has been out since last night at least.

has anyone noticed that with this new HD LDL the TWC Logo is not 16:9 safe? it kinda bugs me.

Doesn't have to be, since you'll only see this on the HD channel.  Of course, that doesn't explain the dead space on the other side of the HD LDL.

Well, it's weird how the design of the long form LDL is inconsistent with the LDA. You'd think they'd aim for a uniform appearance across the board.

Right now, TWC's graphics are kind of all over the place, at least to me.

When the HD Star rolls out, will it run alongside an exisiting IS?  If that's the case, do you think the IS would get a new look to the LOT8 to match whatever the HD Star looks like?

Wherever TWC is getting their ratings from is unreliable. Look at all the comments on TWC's facebook page! We're not the only people who are against movie night.

But here's the truth:  that's still a minority of TWC's viewers.

Am I saying your opinion doesn't matter?  Of course not.  But you're seeing TWC go through what many cable channels have in recent years: channel drift, moving away from their original purpose.

Niche cable channels were a great idea in the early days of cable, but now with every property expected to show returns and not losses, that idea is heading to the past, and now everyone wants that general enterainment piece of the pie.

Add in the fact that TWC's greatest asset - localized weather information - is now readily available just about everywhere, it's got to find a way to get more eyeballs.  That means going beyond wall to wall forecasts.

Everything Else TWC / Re: New Pillarboxes?

Sorry for bumping, but I guess the old |HD| pillarboxes aren't retired.

Is it possible those are "burned" on to the program - as in the control room's not cueing them up, but they are literally on the tape?

Kind of like if you catch one of the weekend documentaries on MSNBC and you see their old logo because they just "burned" it on there.

Wait a minute, I can tell you for a fact  that New Orleans gets traffic speeds on its Intellistar.  I see it all the time.

Guess this is how alerts will be handled:

As an aside, why would the alert say Audubon Park, but the cities that my Star rotates through are New Orleans and Boutte?  (No, I don't know the 'Stars ID)

It will only be there until you get the HD STAR. There will be no left display area, just a LDL similar to the domestic Istar.

Which is what I figured - all that HD sidebar/L-bar stuff is to combat the fatal flaw TWC HD had at start - zero local information.  It wasn't the best solution, but a decent stopgap.

Now, can anyone tell me the point of having all these LDLs?  There's small, large, and ol' Blue on the LF.  Combine that with various design elements all being used at once on air, and there's a bit of a jumble right now.

I am pissed about the bottom bar. Makes the screen size even smaller on the hd channel

But all it's doing is taking up all that dead space at the bottom of the HD screen.  If they are not going to use the whole screen, I'd rather they do that than just have a pillar on the left.

Seems like a bit much - so there's 3 LDLs now?  Tall, short, and the one on the LF that keeps the old blue style?
