TWC and your Cable Company / Re: VZ FiOS dropped TWC
« on: April 13, 2015, 07:08:08 PM »
Verizon FiOS and The Weather Channel have officially ended their negotiations. TWC is now urging people to change  TV providers, according to keeptheweatherchannel.com:
Quote
Our efforts to reach a resolution with Verizon FiOS have ended.
Along with you, we hoped that FiOS would reverse their decision to drop The Weather Channel. Unfortunately, even a lower price and customer outrage did not move them.

Charging you a premium price and then offering you an inferior weather resource is a disservice to you.

Find your new provider today!

General Discussion / Re: AccuWeather Channel

Guys, I think AccuWeather is using The Weather Channel's 2005 storm alert theme. During the featured video of the day, I heard it playing in the background. Not sure if they used it with or without The Weather Channel's consent.
Eye of the Storm, or more commonly known as TWC's Storm alert theme is actually a production song. There is a version available from Stephen Arnold Music without the TWC Sonic branding. AccuWeather probably licensed a copy of the song.

Local Forecast / Re: General LF Discussion

I'm glad they are running the HD feed on the SD feed. It makes sense to do so. I'm surprised it's taken this long to start doing it considering they have been in HD for almost 7 years. I guess the slow progression of IS2s may have been a factor. Also I would imagine they're saving money by getting rid of the IntelliStar in favor of running the IntelliStar2 on two feeds instead of having to operate/maintain two different STARs on two separate feeds. Besides it's not like there a major differences among the IS/IS2/heck even the IS2jr now unlike pre 2013.
It's true that saving money is good, but with this new HD feed simulcast, lots of the text on the screen is unreadable and Dual Feed is now gone forever. At least TWC now doesn't only use dual feed.

Yesterday was the last day I saw my Intellistar. Goodbye old friend.  Time Warner replaced the SD feed with a letterboxed HD Feed.

Unlocked Motorola Moto G 2013, to accompany my iPhone. I decided I wanted to try out Android, and the Moto G was the closest choice to stock Android without having to pay over $100 dollars.

Local Forecast / Re: How does Local on the 8s Work at TWC?
« on: March 23, 2015, 10:10:39 PM »
I've always wondered how TWC airs the Lo8s during specified times. I've always was curious about the National LF. I know the HD graphics from 2007-2013 were from Viz, possibly even now. Does anyone know how they aired it live along with lining up the music to air on time? Really dying to know.
I'm not as experienced as the other members on here, but as far as I know, TWC uses cue tones which the STAR at your headend recognizes and then airs the Local Forecast. Please, correct me if I am wrong. Another thing I find interesting is how the IntelliStar 2 HD cues the specific local forecast product it's supposed to be showing if it cues late. It's like a fail-safe that prevents the IS2HD from cueing the LF Over other programming.
I know that, but also that brings up an interesting question. How does TWC put advance graphics from Viz to a standalone star machine. For example the IS2 from 2010-2013. Along with the other question is what I'm curious about?

 - For those who don't know what Viz is, it' s a software made by a company called VizRT and is composed of Viz Weather, Viz Artist, and Viz World all standalone products that work together. TWC used them with stars and on air graphics.
Sorry, I misread your question. I imagine that TWC has some help with creating the Viz graphics for their STARs from VizRT and their team of software engineers. Maybe Viz has some sort of API or SDK for this kind of stuff. I do know that the IS2 project was a big operation at TWC.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: TWC & WN on DISH?
« on: March 19, 2015, 02:06:44 PM »
I don't have Dish, but I honestly wish my provider would pick up WN even if it meant losing TWC, since TWC has reverted back to its pre-DTV-dispute state and then some IMHO.  It's good for Dish, though.
I agree with TWC having so much unnecessary longform, but WN has changed also. They mainly now run on Paid Programming, They have little to no live coverage, and also run on taped loops.

I really don't like the path TWC is taking. If they can steer away from making longform, then good, but I think they have been making longform for so long that they can't just say screw it and just end longform. They have wasted all this money on making longform that we won't see an end to it soon. Maybe someday TWC will wake up from its "coma". Sorry I made this post so off topic.

Anyone know when TWC's contract with DISH is up? Looks like Ch 215 is opening up as of April, and another site is showing an channel called WN coming online soon? Any info here?
I think WN stands for WeatherNation. They are probably going to expand to Dish.

Today marks the 1st anniversary of the AMHQ launch. It seemed like yesterday it had just launched. Also, Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Same here. Both on my IS and IS2. The IS2 only shows the radar, local forecasts and the 7 day.

Hopefully it gets resolved soon, I just got the email again yesterday. It has an IP of 97.86.2.242. It says it's from Charter Communications in St. Louis, MO.

TWC just added a new ad to Wunderground's new Storm app. Hopefully TWC doesn't start the "DirecTV War" all over again.  Expect more ads or commercials. I included a screenshot.
