Interesting. One of the ads for the new TWC|HD features the couple walking on the beach at sunset that has been prevalent in TWC openers and promos ever since the 2001 series of Weather Center openers. I guess they have that footage stored in HD?

Not necessarily. It could've been upconverted to HD.

Here's the result of my more scathing letter to Chris Hoitsma:

Thank you for contacting The Weather Channel Interactive.

I will forward your email message, expressing your frustrations with the lack
of severe weather coverage due to the airing of our long-form programming to
our producers and programming directors. When there are widespread outbreaks
of inclement or severe weather, our producers are given the option of
pre-empting any scheduled programming features or going live to Dr. Forbes in
our storm center. Hopefully, they will choose the later option more often in
the future!

We are always happy to hear from our viewers and hope you will continue to
watch The Weather Channel for many years to come.

That whole "later" (sic, it's "latter", Chris) option thing doesn't make any sense in the context of what I complained about. The former would actually be the desired option.

Like most of TWC's correspondance, it sounds totally manufactured. TWC really seems to excel in the art of pacifism.
