Local Forecast / Re: Weatherstar 4000 Locations that remain
« on: March 04, 2009, 07:59:37 AM »
Theres one thats in Peoria, IL from a Mediacom headend, and its in good shape!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-iibfn2Pzo#hq

Back when we had cable, our provider was Comcast and they have always seem to be up to date with the WeatherSTARs. We already lost our 4000 back in 1999.

Heres some video I recorded from our IntelliSTAR (22878). The video above was taken last October while the video below was recored from April 2007.

I just hope Mediacom doesn't upgrade their 4000!

So why exactly are you showing us your IS in a thread about the 4000?

Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion

Samantha tries too hard to fit in, and have a personality.  I really don't think she is herself.  Then again, I don't know her personality at all, but she always seems uncomfortable.  She sometimes stumbles over words as well.

That pretty well sums up how I see her.

Minor thing, your latest news item on the homepage takes the link to https://twctodayforums.com/index.php?page=misc/classictimeline.php which is incorrect... the .php shouldn't be there

Whoops! Fixed.  B)

If I might ask.........why not?  What is it about her that you don't like?

Regards

What's wrong with Sam?  I like her..very articulate...........and pleasant.

I agree about Sam Mohr. Frankly, I think the best place for her is outside the front door.

I don't see her as articulate or pleasant.

Its hard to explain. Simply put, when I watch her, I simply don't feel that way about her.

General Weather Chat / Re: Global Warming Over?
« on: March 03, 2009, 11:18:35 PM »
I'm shocked that these articles don't even mention that there's also a natural cycle that could explain our warming and cooling over the decades:  The Sun goes through a sunspot cycle every 22 years.  When it's at a maximum in terms of the number of sunspots, which are those dark little spots you would see on images of our star, it's pumping out more heat and energy.  We're in a sunspot minimum right now according to astronomers.  There are way too many factors involved to answer about global warming, but why are we not paying more attention to the fluctuations of the only object in our solar system that provides the source for all of the energy that drives our weather?

I agree. You'd think the Sun would be very high on the list of things to look at when it comes to global warming.

Erie's a big travel spot (for weekend getaways). Lake Erie, there's plenty of colleges up there, Lake Calhoun, camping, Splash Lagoon, etc.

Ahh, I see. I guess I'm not very familiar with Erie.  :D

General Weather Chat / Global Warming Over?

I found an extremely interesting article that I thought I'd post here for us to read and chat about. According to it, Global Warming may be over, and may not return for years, or even decades.

Here's the article:

Personally, I'd go with Cleveland, State College, and either Wheeling WVa (many travel for gaming), Morgantown (I-79 goes right through it), or Erie.

On all the Comcast STARs throughout the Pittsburgh DMA, the cities are Cleveland, Youngstown, State College.

Wheeling seems logical, and so does Morgantown. But Erie seems about as poiintless as Elkins.

Programming / Re: Favorite classic slogan

"Weather You Can Always Turn To" was my favorite as well.  There's a reason why that's still the longest-running slogan of TWC. ;)  By the way, you missed two from way back in the 80's that need to be added to your list of pre-2000 slogans:  "We Take The Weather Seriously, But Not Ourselves" and "Weatherproofing America".

Right you are. Those were before even my time!  :D

That looks like a pretty complete list. You even included the 4000 here in Bel Air!
Have you posted videos of this 4000? f so, I would like to see it
Also, as mentioned above, I hope to be going to Yale, MI during Spring Break in April. I hope that the 4000 still exists there. If not, it will be an XL, because Intellistar is not necessay there

I don't have that STAR, and its not my video. I live near Baltimore, not in Bel Air. Search YouTube for it.
