General Discussion / Re: U.S. Officially In Recession
« on: December 01, 2008, 05:27:13 PM »
On the bright side, the article also says that some of the interest rate cuts imposed by the government last year should start helping the economy very soon.
Meaning gas prices may rise again. :(

Possibly, but not necessarily. Its going to take a decent increasing in consumption before we see prices rise again, and until the economy starts improving ALOT we're not going to see gas consumption increase very much. Personally, I think the days of $4 gas are gone for a good while.

I agree Jae. I don't think its appropriate to make a guessing game out of people's futures.

Indeed. Props though to the forecast of the termination of Dave, Eboni and Cheryl because you are indeed correct; their bios have all disappeared from weather.com.

I wasn't kidding when I said I was talking to an insider!  :P

BTW, I've contacted him to see if I can find out more about what's going on with Tetiana, and Jorma Duran too, whom I also heard was supposed to go.

I saw Tetiana Anderson reporting this morning on YWT. I thought that someone posted here that she was included in the Nov 30 lay-offs.  :whistling:

She was supposed to be. As was also said, though, perhaps some of the layoffs take effect at a later date than others.

General Discussion / U.S. Officially In Recession
« on: December 01, 2008, 04:21:11 PM »
According to the following article, it's been (finally!) officially declared that the country is in a recession, and has been since this time last year:

http://money.cnn.com/2008/12/01/news/economy/recession/?postversion=2008120115

The article goes on to say that economists are predicting that the economy will hit bottom in the second quarter of 2009, which means we still have a good while to go before this recession might be over. On the bright side, the article also says that some of the interest rate cuts imposed by the government last year should start helping the economy very soon.

To my surprise Cantore Stories is apparently scheduled to re-air tonight at the same time, 10 PM ET.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it air on Wednesday as well.

Yep I saw a commercial earlier today that said Cantore stories was coming on at 10.

Gil, natural gas isn't much better (and is just as costly to use, if not moreso).

Better than gasoline..

Not really.

Tyler-I figured that much. Do you have any idea how much fuel garbage trucks burn? Lots. And more often than not its diesel fuel, which is even filthier than regular fuel.

Gil, natural gas isn't much better (and is just as costly to use, if not moreso).

I don't see a problem with it. A lot of the communities around here are the same way (the fine amounts very). And they actually do enforce them, via the recycling trucks. The drivers write down house numbers where one or more recycling can is not present on recycling days. If you don't recycle - consider yourself fined.
What if you're single, living on your own, and don't have much trash to begin with?

Over a two week period, everyone throws away some type of plastic, aluminum, or plastic, which can be put in your recycling bin.

I wonder if your city has ever considered how much fuel (money!) they waste by having to stop at every single home? I wonder if they've ever considered that the amount of pollution those trucks cause pretty much negates any positive effects of picking up those recyclables?

It's just my opinion that each citizen should be free to choose if and what they recycle. I feel as though FORCING it goes against the very principles of our country. We're supposed to live in a land of freedom, not tyranny.

No, I haven't.

When did he stop working there?

I don't know for sure, but I've been reporting it since the beginning of last week, at which time no one wanted to hear about it.  <_<

Did anyone receive the playlist from Chris yet?

I'll assume you haven't had time yet to read through the forum.  :D
