In some regions yes it is.

On a different note, I was just looking at our newest members profile, and it turns out that I know him! He's Justin Matherne, my co-admin from the Proboards incarnation of this forum!  8)

What ISP do you have?
BellSouth. You probably don't know about it since obviously it's a southern company ;)

No, I don't know much about it, but since its a DSL service, its safe to say for sure that you do indeed have a static IP.

Well maybe it just hasnt changed in a while.
Doubt it. I don't think my IP would stay the same for this long.

Me neither. SOMETHING over that three year period would have changed it at some point if it were a dynamic IP.

What ISP do you have?

And yes, if his IP has stayed the same, then it is static.
Well maybe it just hasnt changed in a while.

That's probably not the case.

Well, COmcast being the internet leader that it is, probably owns half of the IPs out there.

Actually, that title goes to AOL.

Really? Is AOL still around?
Yes. As much as I hate to admit it, it is.

And yes, if his IP has stayed the same, then it is static.

Gary, I dont know aobut that. My IP started out as 67.xxx.xxx.xxx to 24.xxx.xx.xxx to 71.xx.xxx.xxx

That's actually pretty unusual. Most ISP's (that I know of) have a range ofIP's from which they issue IP's to their users. I've personally NEVER seen someon's IP jump around like that....

We need to keep these forums free of trolls and such, and I feel that Gary and Stephen have done a great job administrating these forums so far. :)
Thanks. B) I assure you that Gary and I will keep this forum ran smoothly. It's always necessary to do that to have a good community.
Agreed.

Also, I believe in running message boards democratically. That means that I think that members should have an opinion too. If you have any suggestions, or know of any way we could do things better, never hesitate to say something.

I think its a must-have. I think the administrator(s) have every right to know more about a guest if they so choose. On some forums, ours being one of them, its absolutley necessary to be able to get information about your guests, in order to keep out unwanted ones.
Agreed. We have to maintain order on the forums so that we don't get trouble making individuals hiding under different identities. IMO, forums (like TWCMB) that have admins that don't seem to care about the trouble makers are a big turnoff from joining the board because the board is not being run as well as a forum should.
I agree. If I was the admin there I would've done everything in my power to maintain order (and to keep certain individuals out). Frankly, I don't think the admins did nearly as much as they could have (with the exception, perhaps of Bill, or WxHelp as he was known). For example, they could have made the board unviewable to guests. I applauded when Matt did that over at TWCC, and should we start having problems here I won't think twice about doing it. And another thing I would've done was to ban the entire range of IP's that Felipe was assigned. What I mean is, most IP's have a range of IP's from which they issue IP's to their users. This might be, for example 72.00.00.00 to 72.99.99.999. I would have banned the entire range of IP's used by Felipe's ISP. Sure, no one else using that IP would have been able to join, but that seems like a relatively small loss to take.

Thanks Billy and Gil for your compliments. It means alot to know that our members feel we are doing a good job.  8)

OCMs & Personalities / Re: How do you judge the OCM's?
« on: July 08, 2007, 12:16:38 AM »
I judge by small things. Appearance, Attitude, the way they talk, the way they move, etc.

No surprise there.  :D

Other then the way the talk, i don't think any of that matters, because weather isn't about any of those things. IMO, a good OCM is one that can talk about the weather in an informative, enjoyable way. For example, I like how often times the OCM's try to make their forecasts more personal by talking about certain specific areas in a state or region they're talking about, whether they are familiar with the area's they're discussing or not. Often times, when they do this it gives you the impression that they ARE familiar with the area they are discussing.

Looks as though Felipe may be browsing the forums. One of our guests IP's originates from Santiago, Chile.  :ermm:

I just love being able to trace IP's with the click of the mouse! :D
Yreah, pretty much all forum software has that capability, fortunately B)
