There's nothing even similar between the two. With a cable modem, you simply plug the cable wire into the modem and your on your way. There are no filters or anything else that you have to use.

Come to think of that, i had the same probelm with my cable modem. I had a splitter, with one connected to the modem, and
the other connected to the TV Tuner, ad it almost completely killed my internet connection. So yah.

You don't use filters with cable modems.

I know its right. I have no doubt in my mind that its right. That's why he isn't having any problems right now. I made the same mistake when I first got DSL. Luckily, the tech support person I spoke with at the time had the smarts to tell me to remove the filter from the modem line.

Yeah Gil unfortunately your 1000 posts don't mean much because they were made for quantity, not quality. In fact, you may end up back under 1000 because I have been pruning some of the larger threads all day today, and admittedly most of what I've pruned belongs to you-because much of what you have posted are one word posts or otherwise unneeded posts.

Stephen, DO NOT replace the filter. You do not use a filter on the modem. I assume that you have a splitter on your phone jack so that you can hook up both the telephone and the modem. Put a filter on the telephone line, but do not put one on the modem line. I can't believe that your ISP wouldn't tell you that. The filter is interfering with the modem.
