TWC Today News / To The Creative Amongst Us
« on: October 29, 2008, 10:56:56 PM »
I've decided that since TWCT is now going to be covering the entire spectrum of TWC, a site redesign is called for. I also would like a new slogan to go along with it.

So, we will once agin have a design off. If you would like to participate, simply submit your design and slogan. The contest is open for one week, closing next Wednesday, November 5th. At that time I will open a poll for a vote on any designs entered. The design with the most votes will be the winner!

« on: October 21, 2008, 09:44:40 PM »
I was not aware of it, but this past summer well known TWC artist Artie Traum passed away after a battle with a rare form of cancer. Here's the article, from the NY Times:

Local Forecast / Penny Lea Information
« on: October 20, 2008, 05:41:15 PM »
I don't know whether or not this was known already, but a YouTube user posted a comment on one of my videos (see below link) stating taht the song Song For Jimmy had been retitled as Bye and Bye by Double Take, on the Temptation album, available on iTunes and Rhapsody. I wonder if her other tunes are also on that album?

Anyway, I didn't know about this, so I figured there are probably others who didn't. Here's the link to the comment:

Local Forecast / Requesting Help With Finding A Song
« on: October 19, 2008, 12:03:14 PM »
When asking for help in identifying a song you ehard on the LF (be it past or present-I'll be putting this in the current LF board as well) there are a few things to remember:

-Telling us the specific time a song played is often not helpful, because we don't watch every Local Forecast! If your posting in the current LF music board its marginally helpful there because we can at least determine which daypart playlist the song is on.

-Always include a clip (video or audio) of the song your after if you have one, no matter the quality of the clip. Most of the time this will result in identification.

-If you have no clip, there are some things you can tell us that would help greatly in ID'ing a song. For instance, tell us what instruments were used in the song (piano, guitar, sax, etc.), the tempo of the song (fast, medium, slow), and the style of the song (rock, jazz, new age, and so forth).

-And finally please tell us the month and year the song played (especially important if your posting in the classic board).

No identification request is ignored here, but those with insufficient information likely won't be figured out.

Local Forecast / Network Music
« on: October 19, 2008, 11:54:04 AM »
For those looking for Network Music tunes featured on TWC in 1993 and 1995, all can be found in full length on Network Music's (now Killer Tracks) website:

http://www.networkmusic.com

I should clarify that the songs may be LISTENED TO in their full length, not downloaded. However, there is a simple solution if you just use some ingenuity.

I figure someone will ask sooner or later so I thought posting a sticky topic with the information would alleviate the need to ask.

Local Forecast / ANOTHER HUGE DISCOVERY
« on: October 11, 2008, 01:59:38 PM »
There's been yet another huge TWC music discovery today. Back in 2002 there was a song used called The Future by Steve Fox. Well, after much searching, its been found! Here's Steve's web page:

General Discussion / NBC WEATHERPLUS SHUTTING DOWN
« on: October 07, 2008, 02:54:47 PM »
According to the following article, NBC's WeatherPlus is being shut down. However, the article states several times that this move was planned, regardless of the acquisition of TWC (of which the article states NBC is only the MINORITY owner).

Programming / Classic TWC Question
« on: October 07, 2008, 12:46:46 PM »
I've got a question for anyone here who might have some knowledge of the old days of TWC (we're probably talking the 80's old). According to the article below (link at end of question), TWC would, on rare occasions, air cartoons and movies from Disney at certain times in the evening. Is that true? I'm afraid I've never heard that anywhere other than this article (which I've also never seen before).

Local Forecast / Unknown Song Identified
« on: October 05, 2008, 01:21:17 PM »
Just wanted to let you guys know that I just received an e-mail from a Jimmy Ruska, who identified one of our unknown clips on the Unknown songs page. The clip he ID'd was the Nov 2006 Primetime clip. He says it is called Too Much Traffic, and was done by Steve Hurst.

Wait...I just realized something...wasn't Steve the former music guy at TWC?  :o

General Discussion / OJ SIMPSON FOUND GUILTY OF ALL CHARGES
« on: October 04, 2008, 02:56:40 PM »
O.J Simpson has been found guilty of all charges pressed against him, including attempted robbery and kidnapping. He is now looking at life behind bars. Article:

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iUNgbOr-2bnpFUX0MiII6je2CkRAD93JGLI80

It looks like OJ is finally going to get what he deserved back in 1994. Ironically, today is exactly 13 years to the day since he was found not guilty of murder.

So what do you guys think? Will there be an appeal? Will he spend the rest of his life behind bars? Are you satisfied with the jury's decision?

TWC Today News / Notice-PLEASE READ
« on: September 27, 2008, 10:53:25 PM »
We had a situation tonight where a member (who will not be named) harassed another member (who also will not be named). The harasser has been permanently removed from this forum. I would go so far as to say that this may even have been sexual harassment, which is not only grounds for a permanent banning from this site, its also against the law. Further, the harasser was an adult, and the harassed a minor. That too would be very close to being against the law. I am considering reporting this person to his local authorities. When an adult solicits a minor as was done here tonight, its a big no no.

As part of our investigation into these activities, we did indeed have to resort to reading PM's. But you have to understand that the safety of our members comes first, especially in situations such as this. We felt that this situation was serious enough to merit such action.

Again, this WILL NOT be tolerated here.

I am leaving this thread open, so feel free to communicate any questions or comments you have. And thank you for your understanding in this serious situation.

General Weather Chat / Training Thunderstorms?
« on: September 27, 2008, 02:44:41 PM »
I've got a question for the weather knowledgeable here. WxScan has a special weather statement scroll on right now, and in the scroll it says that Doppler Radar has indicated training thunderstorms over Baltimore. What is a training thunderstorm? One that's training to be a full-fledged thunderstorm (quirky joke :bleh: )? Not sure I've ever heard that term before.

Everything Else TWC / Sun Outage Period Beginning
« on: September 23, 2008, 04:02:10 PM »
It just occurred to me that we are entering a (roughly) week long period where the sun may cause interference with TWC and the local forecast. This interference is known as a sun outage. These sun outages occur in a roughly week long period at the beginning of both fall and summer. They do not affect TWC exclusively. Any TV signal may be affected. There really is no remedy either, as the sun's radio waves are simply far stronger than any man made wave. For more about these outages, check here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_outage

So you know what this means: its time to be ready to record TWC in the event an outage occurs! If you capture any outage, please be sure to share with us!
