Everything Else TWC / Re: General TWC Discussion
« on: May 18, 2010, 09:28:40 AM »
Martin, it's my own opinion that The Weather Channel has seen a substantial decline in quality over the years, but especially since NBC bought the network.  Sometimes it really does seem that reporting the weather has taken a backseat to entertainment on The Weather Channel, and that the network is now nothing more than another entertainment output machine in the NBC family.

It shouldn't be this way at all, and, at one time, it wasn't.

I completely agree with you, reporting the weather has taken a back seat, and it is sad .  But, the part I highlight, of course, I have to disagree with.  While I respect your opinions, I think it is in your head (that sounds like I am calling you crazy or something, which I totally am not :P).  I think that some of us just WANT to think it's NBC's fault so we have somebody to blame.

Speaking of TWC :P, Anyone seen the new YWT commercial? (I apologize if this has been posted elsewhere)  I enjoy what Mike and Steph say, but is it really true?  I doubt the Titan HD RADAR is up to the second.  Just saying.  I do like the commercial, though.  But, the commercial also confirmed I really do not enjoy the color scheme for the show
if I recall, I think it takes up to six minutes to get an entire lower 48 image for each radar image. At one point, I counted 10 frames, and the titan HD radar was up to the past hour, meaning one frame for every 6 minutes or so.

So I'm in a bit of a dilemma now. I want to stream my Weatherscan XL Emulator and host my videos to a server so badly, but my parents won't open the ports on our router because they say my neighbor who has a Bachelor's in computer science told them that port fowarding is very dangerous. Not that I believe it, but they say that hackers can get into the router, control the host computer, and take their bank account info. :hmm:
Do it yourself then.

I feel that BP and the government are NOT doing enough to fix this problem. There is far too much finger pointing going on and threats to raise OUR taxes to fix this. This isn't our, the tax payer's, fault.

TWC and your Cable Company / Re: Comcast Sucks.

Neat update from AVS Forum - Comcast's next step in their video delivery is a massive channel reorganization effort.

Honestly, considering Comcast's lineup (at least where I live) seems so random that it was put together by a drunk monkey, I think this channel reorganization is long overdue.  We'll get used to it soon enough.

Really? Ours is quite organized to me. 20's is generally public /educational/government access, 30's has sports and movie networks, low-40's has news, mid-upper 40s has children networks, 50's has MTV and all of that. But, like they say... it's Crapcast  :D
crapcast, cumcast, comcrap, it's all the same ;)

Got an internship for the summer! I'll be working for the York County Rail Trail Authority.
I guess that means you're leaving Walmart?

They all have, but the other shows are not really using it yet. Weather Center and YWT seem to be the only ones really utilizing it.

Mike and Forbes did a live chat today on weather.com
How was that chat?  I didn't see it.  I bet they had a lot to talk about after an unbelievable day.
Well they did it at noon. It didn't seem as active as I would have thought
Most people are either at school or at work at noon, so I wouldn't expect that many people in the chat.

There's no reason to believe otherwise... I think I last saw him in the field during one of those tornado outbreaks... Not sure though. I'm almost positive he's still at TWC

You know what I hate about New Jersey? The law where all gas stations  have to be full serve. Not only do they not know how to pump your gas,  but it puts the state into more debt than it already has. Plus, I'm  sitting at the gas station for 3 times as long because the pumpers are  sitting on their lazy butts instead of paying attention to the pumps  and if they're finished filling or not. And when I ask them to FILL the  tank, they only fill it about 3/4.

IMO,  if Christie wants to save money, he should lay off the inexperienced  gas station pumpers, not the teachers that help our students become  successful in life.
WTF fucked up gas station are YOU going to? Sometimes if the station knows you around my area, they "let you" pump your gas, of course, without getting caught. Usually if you tell them to fill the tank, the gas pump usually stops when it's full, not 3/4 full.

What happened to Stephen? He hasn't posted in well over a month.
I don't know. I was wondering too. Hope everything is all right
He's been signing on to the forums, as he was last active today... Maybe he's just choosing not to post?
